First ReadingMicah 2:1-5

From the Book of Micah

1Woe to those who devise iniquityand work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it,because it is in the power of their hand.2They covet fields and seize them, and houses, then take them away. They oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.3Therefore the Lord says:“Behold, I am planning against these people a disaster, from which you will not remove your necks, neither will you walk haughtily, for it is an evil time.4In that day they will take up a parable against you,and lament with a doleful lamentation, saying,‘We are utterly ruined! My people’s possession is divided up.Indeed he takes it from me and assigns our fields to traitors!’”5Therefore you will have no one who divides the land by lot in the Lord’s assembly.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 10:1-2, 3-4, 7-8, 14

1Why do you stand far off, Lord? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?2In arrogance, the wicked hunt down the weak. They are caught in the schemes that they devise.

3For the wicked boasts of his heart’s cravings. He blesses the greedy and condemns the Lord.4The wicked, in the pride of his face, has no room in his thoughts for God.

7His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression.Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.8He lies in wait near the villages. From ambushes, he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the helpless.

14But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.

GospelMatthew 12:14-21

From the Gospel according to Matthew

14But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him,how they might destroy him.

15Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there.Great multitudes followed him;and he healed them all,16and commanded them that they should not make him known,17that it might be fulfilledwhich was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

18“Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased.I will put my Spirit on him.He will proclaim justice to the nations.19He will not strive, nor shout, neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets.20He won’t break a bruised reed.He won’t quench a smoking flax, until he leads justice to victory.21In his name, the nations will hope.”
