First ReadingHebrews 2:14-18

From the Letter to the Hebrews

14Since then the children have shared in flesh and blood,he also himself in the same way partook of the same, that through death he might bring to nothing himwho had the power of death, that is, the devil,15and might deliver all of themwho through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.16For most certainly,he doesn’t give help to angels, but he gives help to the offspring of Abraham.17Therefore he was obligated in all things to be made like his brothers, that he might become a mercifuland faithful high priest in things pertaining to God,to make atonement for the sins of the people.18For in that he himself has suffered being tempted,he is able to help those who are tempted.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 105:1-2, 3-4, 6-7, 8-9

1Give thanks to the Lord! Call on his name!Make his doings known among the peoples.2Sing to him, sing praises to him!Tell of all his marvelous works.

3Glory in his holy name.Let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice.4Seek the Lord and his strength.Seek his face forever more.

6you offspring of Abraham, his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.7He is the Lord, our God.His judgments are in all the earth.

8He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,9the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac,

GospelMark 1:29-39

From the Gospel according to Mark

29Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.30Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.31He came and took her by the hand and raised her up.The fever left her immediately, and she served them.

32At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sickand those who were possessed by demons.33All the city was gathered together at the door.34He healed many who were sick with various diseasesand cast out many demons. He didn’t allow the demons to speak, because they knew him.

35Early in the morning, while it was still dark,he rose up and went out,and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.36Simon and those who were with him searched for him.37They found him and told him,“Everyone is looking for you.”

38He said to them, “Let’s go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason.”39He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.

Lesson from the book of Isaias

Isa 60:1-6

Rise up in splendor, O Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the Lord shines, and over you appears His glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses. Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Madian and Epha; all from Saba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joann 1:29-34

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 1:29-34

At that time, John saw Jesus coming to him, and he said, Behold, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of Whom I said, ‘After me there comes One Who has been set above me, because He was before me.’ And I did not know Him. But that He may be known to Israel, for this reason have I come baptizing with water. And John bore witness, saying, I beheld the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon Him. And I did not know Him. But He Who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He upon Whom you will see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon Him, He it is Who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

Epiphany

It is truly meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should in all times and in all places give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty and everlasting God. For when Thine only begotten Son showed Himself in the substance of our mortal nature, He restored us by the new light of His own immortality. And therefore with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the heavenly hosts, we sing a hymn to Thy glory, saying without ceasing:
