Feast · Ordinary Time · Sunday Cycle C · Psalter Week 2

First ReadingDaniel 7:9-10, 13-14

From the Book of Daniel

9“I watched until thrones were placed, and one who was Ancient of Days sat.His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool. His throne was fiery flames, and its wheels burning fire.10A fiery stream issued and came out from before him.Thousands of thousands ministered to him.Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.The judgment was set.The books were opened.

verses 11–12 are not read13“I saw in the night visions, and behold, one like a son of man came with the clouds, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought him near before him.14Dominion was given him, with glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him.His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which will not pass away, and his kingdom will not be destroyed.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 9

1The Lord reigns!Let the earth rejoice!Let the multitude of islands be glad!2Clouds and darkness are around him.Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

5The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord,at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.6The heavens declare his righteousness. All the peoples have seen his glory.

9For you, Lord, are most high above all the earth. You are exalted far above all gods.

Second Reading2 Peter 1:16-19

From the Second Letter of Peter

16For we didn’t follow cunningly devised fableswhen we made known to you the powerand coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.17For he received from God the Father honor and glorywhen the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory,“This is my beloved Son,in whom I am well pleased.”18We heard this voice come out of heavenwhen we were with him on the holy mountain.

19We have the more sure word of prophecy;and you do wellthat you heed it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawnsand the morning star arises in your hearts,

GospelLuke 9:28b-36*

From the Gospel according to Luke

28About eight days after these sayings,he took with him Peter,John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray.29As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling.30Behold, two men were talking with him,who were Moses and Elijah,31who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

32Now Peter and thosewho were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him.33As they were parting from him,Peter said to Jesus,“Master, it is good for us to be here.Let’s make three tents:one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah,”not knowing what he said.

34While he said these things,a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud.35A voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son.Listen to him!”36When the voice came, Jesus was found alone. They were silent, and told no one in those days any of the thingswhich they had seen.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

2 Petri 1:16-19

Lesson from the second letter of St. Peter the Apostle

2 Pet. 1:16-19

Beloved: We were not following fictitious tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of His grandeur. For He received from God the Father honor and glory, when from out the majestic glory a voice came down to Him, speaking thus: This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased. And this voice we ourselves heard borne from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mount. And we have the word of prophecy, surer still, to which you do well to attend, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 17:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 17:1-9

At that time, Jesus took Peter, James and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves, and was transfigured before them. And His face shone as the sun, and His garments became white as snow. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking together with Him. Then Peter addressed Jesus, saying, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You will, let us set up three tents here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elias. As he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear Him. And on hearing it the disciples fell on their faces and were exceedingly afraid. And Jesus came near and touched them, and said to them, Arise, and do not be afraid. But lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus cautioned them, saying, Tell the vision to no one, till the Son of Man has risen from the dead.

Nativity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God, for through the Mystery of the Word made flesh, the new light of Thy glory hath shone upon the eyes of our mind, so that while we acknowledge God in visible form, we may through Him be drawn to the love of things invisible. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Throne and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
