First Reading1 Timothy 2:1-8

From the First Letter of Paul to Timothy

1I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men,2for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquiland quiet life in all godliness and reverence.3For this is goodand acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,4who desires all people to be savedand come to full knowledge of the truth.5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus,6who gave himself as a ransom for all,the testimony at the proper time,7to which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am telling the truth in Christ, not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

8I desire therefore that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and doubting.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 28:2, 7, 8-9

2Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry to you, when I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.

7The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.

8The Lord is their strength. He is a stronghold of salvation to his anointed.9Save your people, and bless your inheritance.Be their shepherd also, and bear them up forever.

GospelJohn 19:25-27

From the Gospel according to John

or Luke 2:33-35

25But standing by Jesus’ cross were his mother, his mother’s sister,Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.26Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there,he said to his mother,“Woman, behold, your son!”27Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!”From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home.
