First Reading1 Corinthians 2:10-16

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

or 2 Timothy 4:1-5

10But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.11For who among men knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?Even so, no one knows the things of God except God’s Spirit.12But we received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God,that we might know the thingsthat were freely given to us by God.13We also speak these things, not in words which man’s wisdom teachesbut which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.14Now the natural man doesn’t receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him;and he can’t know them, because they are spiritually discerned.15But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is to be judged by no one.16“For who has known the mind of the Lordthat he should instruct him?”But we have Christ’s mind.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 145:8-14

or Psalm 96:1-2a, 2b-3, 7-8a, 10

8The Lord is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and of great loving kindness.9The Lord is good to all.His tender mercies are over all his works.10All your works will give thanks to you, Lord.Your saints will extol you.11They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk about your power,12to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.13Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.Your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds.14The Lord upholds all who fall, and raises up all those who are bowed down.

GospelMatthew 13:47-52

From the Gospel according to Matthew

or John 15:9-17

47“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnetthat was cast into the seaand gathered some fish of every kind,48which, when it was filled, fishermen drew up on the beach. They sat down and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.49So it will be in the end of the world. The angels will comeand separate the wicked from among the righteous,50and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”51Jesus said to them,“Have you understood all these things?”

They answered him, “Yes, Lord.”

52He said to them, “Therefore every scribewho has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a manwho is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.”
