First ReadingRomans 8:1-11

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

1There is therefore now no condemnation to thosewho are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.3For what the law couldn’t do,in that it was weak through the flesh,God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,he condemned sin in the flesh,4that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in uswho don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.6For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;7because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God,for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be.8Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.

9But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit,if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you.But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.10If Christ is in you,the body is dead because of sin,but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.11But if the Spirit of himwho raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you,he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 24:1b-2, 3-4ab, 5-6

1The earth is the Lord’s, with its fullness;the world, and those who dwell in it.2For he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the floods.

3Who may ascend to the Lord’s hill?Who may stand in his holy place?4He who has clean hands and a pure heart;who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully.

5He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, righteousness from the God of his salvation.6This is the generation of those who seek Him,who seek your face—even Jacob.

GospelLuke 13:1-9

From the Gospel according to Luke

1Now there were some present at the same timewho told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.2Jesus answered them,“Do you thinkthat these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things?3I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.4Or those eighteen onwhom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you thinkthat they were worse offenders than all the menwho dwell in Jerusalem?5I tell you, no, but, unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.”

6He spoke this parable.“A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.7He said to the vine dresser,‘Behold, these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none.Cut it down! Why does it waste the soil?’8He answered, ‘Lord, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.9If it bears fruit, fine;but if not, after that, you can cut it down.’”
