First ReadingHebrews 12:18-19, 21-24

From the Letter to the Hebrews

18For you have not come to a mountainthat might be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, storm,19the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words;which those who heard it beggedthat not one more word should be spoken to them, verse 20 is not read21So fearful was the appearance that Moses said,“I am terrified and trembling.”

22But you have come to Mount Zionand to the city of the living God,the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels,23to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstbornwho are enrolled in heaven,to God the Judge of all,to the spirits of just men made perfect,24to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinklingthat speaks better than that of Abel.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 48:2-3ab, 3cd-4, 9, 10-11

2Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,in the city of our God, in his holy mountain.3Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth,

3is Mount Zion, on the north sides, the city of the great King.4God has shown himself in her citadels as a refuge.

9As we have heard, so we have seen,in the city of the Lord of Armies, in the city of our God.God will establish it forever.

10We have thought about your loving kindness, God,in the middle of your temple.11As is your name, God,so is your praise to the ends of the earth.Your right hand is full of righteousness.

GospelMark 6:7-13

From the Gospel according to Mark

7He called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two;and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.8He commanded themthat they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only:no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse,9but to wear sandals, and not put on two tunics.10He said to them, “Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.11Whoever will not receive you nor hear you,as you depart from there, shake off the dustthat is under your feet for a testimony against them.Assuredly, I tell you,it will be more tolerable for Sodomand Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”

12They went out and preached that people should repent.13They cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick and healed them.
