First ReadingProverbs 9:1-6*

From the Book of Proverbs

1Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars.2She has prepared her meat. She has mixed her wine. She has also set her table.3She has sent out her maidens. She cries from the highest places of the city:4“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him,5“Come, eat some of my bread,Drink some of the wine which I have mixed!6Leave your simple ways, and live.Walk in the way of understanding.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 34:2-3, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15*

2I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.3My soul shall boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

10Oh fear the Lord, you his saints, for there is no lack with those who fear him.11The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

12Come, you children, listen to me.I will teach you the fear of the Lord.13Who is someone who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?

14Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies.15Depart from evil, and do good.Seek peace, and pursue it.

Second ReadingEphesians 5:15-20*

From the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians

15Therefore watch carefully how you walk,not as unwise, but as wise,16redeeming the time, because the days are evil.17Therefore, don’t be foolish,but understand what the will of the Lord is.18Don’t be drunken with wine,in which is dissipation,but be filled with the Spirit,19speaking to one another in psalms,hymns, and spiritual songs;singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;20giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;

GospelJohn 6:51-58*

From the Gospel according to John

51I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.Yes, the breadwhich I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

52The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53Jesus therefore said to them,“Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Manand drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves.54He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.55For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.56He who eats my fleshand drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.57As the living Father sent me,and I live because of the Father,so he who feeds on me will also live because of me.58This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna and died.He who eats this bread will live forever.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas.

Gal 5:16-24

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Gal 5:16-24

Brethren: Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are immorality, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, jealousies, anger, quarrels, factions, parties, envies, murders, drunkenness, carousings, and suchlike. And concerning these I warn you, as I have warned you, that they who do such things will not attain the kingdom of God. But of the fruit of the Spirit is: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, long-suffering, mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Against such things there is no law. And they who belong to Christ have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 6:24-33

Scit enim Pater vester, quia his ómnibus indigétis. Quǽrite ergo primum regnum Dei et justítiam ejus: et hæc ómnia adjiciéntur vobis.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 6:24-33

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: No man serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will stand by the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you shall eat; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life a greater thing than the food, and the body than the clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you of much more value than they? But which of you by being anxious about it can add to his stature a single cubit? And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider how the lilies of the field grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of those. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which flourishes today but tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more you, O you of little faith! Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or, ‘What shall we drink?’ or, ‘What are we to put on?’ - for after all these things the Gentiles seek; - for your Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His justice, and all these things shall be given you besides.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
