First ReadingActs 6:8-15

From the Acts of the Apostles

8Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.9But some of thosewho were of the synagogue called “The Libertines”,and of the Cyrenians,of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.10They weren’t able to withstand the wisdomand the Spirit by which he spoke.11Then they secretly induced men to say,“We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”12They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, then brought him in to the council,13and set up false witnesses who said,“This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.14For we have heard him saythat this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”15All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him,saw his face like it was the face of an angel.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30

23Though princes sit and slander me,your servant will meditate on your statutes.24Indeed your statutes are my delight, and my counselors.

26I declared my ways, and you answered me.Teach me your statutes.27Let me understand the teaching of your precepts! Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.

29Keep me from the way of deceit.Grant me your law graciously!30I have chosen the way of truth.I have set your ordinances before me.

GospelJohn 6:22-29

From the Gospel according to John

22On the next day, the multitudethat stood on the other side of the sea sawthat there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.23However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.24When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boatsand came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.25When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”

26Jesus answered them,“Most certainly I tell you,you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.27Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.For God the Father has sealed him.”

28They said therefore to him,“What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”

29Jesus answered them,“This is the work of God,that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

1 Tim 5:3-10

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to Timothy

1 Tim. 5:3-10.

Dearly beloved: Honor widows, that are widows indeed. But if any widow have children or grandchildren, let her learn first to govern her own house, and to make a return of duty to her parents: for this is acceptable before God. But she that is a widow indeed and desolate, let her trust in God, and continue in prayers and supplications night and day. For she that liveth in pleasures, is dead while she is living. And this give in charge, that they may be blameless. But if any man have not care of his own, and especially of those of his house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Let a widow be chosen of no less than threescore years of age, who hath been the wife of one husband, having testimony for her good words, if she have brought up children, if she have received to harbor, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have ministered to them that suffer tribulation, if she have diligently followed every good work.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 7:11-16

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 7:11-16

At that time, Jesus went into a city called Naim; and His disciples and a large crowd went with Him. And as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was with her. And the Lord, seeing her, had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep. And He went up and touched the stretcher; and the bearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited His people.

Paschalis

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
