First ReadingActs 20:17-27

From the Acts of the Apostles

17From Miletus he sent to Ephesusand called to himself the elders of the assembly.18When they had come to him,he said to them, “You yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, how I was with you all the time,19serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears, and with trialswhich happened to me by the plots of the Jews;20how I didn’t shrink from declaring to you anythingthat was profitable, teaching you publicly and from house to house,21testifying both to Jewsand to Greeks repentance toward Godand faith toward our Lord Jesus.22Now, behold, I go bound by the Spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there;23except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions wait for me.24But these things don’t count;nor do I hold my life dear to myself,so that I may finish my race with joy,and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus,to fully testify to the Good News of the grace of God.

25“Now, behold, I know that you all, among whom I went about preaching God’s Kingdom, will see my face no more.26Therefore I testify to you todaythat I am clean from the blood of all men,27for I didn’t shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 68:10-11, 20-21

10You, God, sent a plentiful rain. You confirmed your inheritance when it was weary.11Your congregation lived therein. You, God, prepared your goodness for the poor.

20Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burdens, even the God who is our salvation.21God is to us a God of deliverance. To GOD, the Lord, belongs escape from death.

GospelJohn 17:1-11a

From the Gospel according to John

1Jesus said these things, then lifting up his eyes to heaven,he said, “Father, the time has come.Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you;2even as you gave him authority over all flesh,so he will give eternal life to allwhom you have given him.3This is eternal life, that they should know you,the only true God,and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.4I glorified you on the earth.I have accomplished the workwhich you have given me to do.5Now, Father, glorify me with your own self with the glorywhich I had with you before the world existed.

6“I revealed your name to the peoplewhom you have given me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me.They have kept your word.7Now they have knownthat all things whatever you have given me are from you,8for the wordswhich you have given me I have given to them;and they received them, and knew for sure that I came from you. They have believed that you sent me.9I pray for them.I don’t pray for the world, but for those whom you have given me,for they are yours.10All things that are mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.11I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to you.Holy Father, keep them through your namewhich you have given me,that they may be one, even as we are.

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.

PrefacePrefatio

Ascension

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: through Christ our Lord. Who, after His Resurrection, appeared openly to all His disciples, and, while they looked on, was taken up into heaven, that He might grant unto us to be sharers in His own divinity. And therefore, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
