First Reading2 Peter 1:2-7

From the Second Letter of Peter

2Grace to youand peace be multiplied in the knowledge of Godand of Jesus our Lord,3seeing that his divine power has granted to us all thingsthat pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of himwho called us by his own glory and virtue,4by which he has granted to us his preciousand exceedingly great promises;that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruptionthat is in the world by lust.5Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence,in your faith supply moral excellence;and in moral excellence, knowledge;6and in knowledge, self-control;and in self-control, perseverance;and in perseverance, godliness;7and in godliness, brotherly affection;and in brotherly affection, love.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 91:1-2, 14-15b, 15c-16

1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most Highwill rest in the shadow of the Almighty.2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;my God, in whom I trust.”

14“Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him.I will set him on high, because he has known my name.15He will call on me, and I will answer him.I will be with him in trouble.

15I will deliver him, and honor him.16I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation.”

GospelMark 12:1-12

From the Gospel according to Mark

1He began to speak to them in parables.“A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it,dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.2When it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.3They took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.4Again, he sent another servant to them;and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.5Again he sent another, and they killed him,and many others, beating some, and killing some.6Therefore still having one,his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’7But those farmers said among themselves,‘This is the heir.Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’8They took him, killed him,and cast him out of the vineyard.9What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do?He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.10Haven’t you even read this Scripture:

‘The stone which the builders rejectedwas made the head of the corner.11This was from the Lord.It is marvelous in our eyes’?”

12They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude;for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him and went away.

Ps 118:95-96.

Sinners wait to destroy me, but I pay heed to Your decrees, O Lord. I see that all fulfillment has its limits; broad indeed is Your command.

Eccli 51:13-17

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 51:13-17.

O Lord, my God, You have exalted my dwelling place upon the earth, and I have prayed for death to pass away. I called upon the Lord, the Father of my Lord, that He would not abandon me in the day of my trouble, and in the time of the proud without help. I will ever praise Your name, and will praise it with thanksgiving; and my prayer was heard. And You saved me from destruction, and delivered me from the evil time. For this reason I thank You and I praise You, O Lord, our God.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 13:44-52

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 13:44-52.

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; he who finds it hides it, and in his joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he finds a single pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea that gathered in fish of every kind. When it was filled, they hauled it out, and sitting down on the beach, they gathered the good fish into vessels, but threw away the bad. So will it be at the end of the world. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from among the just, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth. Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes. And He said to them, So then, every Scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings forth from his storeroom things new and old.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
