First ReadingGenesis 28:10-22a

From the Book of Genesis

10Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.11He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set.He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.12He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven.Behold, the angels of God were ascendingand descending on it.13Behold, the Lord stood above it,and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac.I will give the land you lie on to youand to your offspring.14Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.15Behold, I am with you,and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have donethat which I have spoken of to you.”

16Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”17He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is!This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”

18Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.19He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.20Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me,and will keep me in this way that I go,and will give me bread to eat,and clothing to put on,21so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and the Lord will be my God,22then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house.Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 91:1-2, 3-4, 14-15ab

1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most Highwill rest in the shadow of the Almighty.2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;my God, in whom I trust.”

3For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence.4He will cover you with his feathers.Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.

14“Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him.I will set him on high, because he has known my name.15He will call on me, and I will answer him.I will be with him in trouble.I will deliver him, and honor him.

GospelMatthew 9:18-26

From the Gospel according to Matthew

18While he told these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her,and she will live.”

19Jesus got up and followed him, as did his disciples.20Behold, a womanwho had a discharge of blood for twelve years came behind him,and touched the fringe of his garment;21for she said within herself,“If I just touch his garment,I will be made well.”

22But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, “Daughter, cheer up!Your faith has made you well.”And the woman was made well from that hour.

23When Jesus came into the ruler’s houseand saw the flute players and the crowd in noisy disorder,24he said to them, “Make room, because the girl isn’t dead, but sleeping.”

They were ridiculing him.25But when the crowd was sent out,he entered in, took her by the hand, and the girl arose.26The report of this went out into all that land.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:19-23

Quem ergo fructum habuístis tunc in illis, in quibus nunc erubéscitis? Nam finis illórum mors est. Nunc vero liberáti a peccáto, servi autem facti Deo, habétis fructum vestrum in sanctificatiónem, finem vero vitam ætérnam. Stipéndia enim peccáti mors. Grátia autem Dei vita ætérna, in Christo Jesu, Dómino nostro.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:19-23

Brethren: I speak in a human way because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you yielded your members as slaves of uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, so now yield your members as slaves of justice unto sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free as regards justice. But what fruit had you then from those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of these things is death. But now set free from sin and become slaves to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and as your end, life everlasting. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is life everlasting in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 7:15-21

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 7:15-21

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father in heaven shall enter the kingdom of heaven.

Dan 3:40

Sicut in holocáustis aríetum et taurórum, et sicut in mílibus agnórum pínguium: sic fiat sacrifícium nostrum in conspéctu tuo hódie, ut pláceat tibi: quia non est confúsio confidéntibus in te, Dómine.

Dan 3:40

As though it were holocausts of rams and bullocks, or thousands of fat lambs, so let our sacrifice be in Your presence today, that it may please You; for those who trust in You cannot be put to shame, O Lord.

SecretSecreta

O God, You Who have given us in one perfect sacrifice the fulfillment of the various sacrifices made under the Old Law, accept these sacrificial gifts offered You by Your devoted servants, and make them holy as You did the gifts of Abel, so that what each one of us has offered in praise of Your majesty may profit for the salvation of all.
