First ReadingJeremiah 2:1-3, 7-8, 12-13

From the Book of Jeremiah

1The Lord’s word came to me, saying,2“Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, ‘The Lord says,

“I remember for you the kindness of your youth, your love as a bride, how you went after me in the wilderness,in a land that was not sown.3Israel was holiness to the Lord, the first fruits of his increase. All who devour him will be held guilty.Evil will come on them,”’ says the Lord.” verses 4–6 are not read7I brought you into a plentiful landto eat its fruit and its goodness;but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.8The priests didn’t say, ‘Where is the Lord?’and those who handle the law didn’t know me.The rulers also transgressed against me,and the prophets prophesied by Baaland followed things that do not profit. verses 9–11 are not read12“Be astonished, you heavens, at thisand be horribly afraid.Be very desolate,” says the Lord.13“For my people have committed two evils:they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut out cisterns for themselves: broken cisterns that can’t hold water.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 36:6-7ab, 8-9, 10-11

6Your loving kindness, Lord, is in the heavens.Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.7Your righteousness is like the mountains of God.Your judgments are like a great deep.Lord, you preserve man and animal.

8How precious is your loving kindness, God!The children of men take refuge under the shadow of your wings.9They shall be abundantly satisfied with the abundance of your house. You will make them drink of the river of your pleasures.

10For with you is the spring of life.In your light we will see light.11Oh continue your loving kindness to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.

GospelMatthew 13:10-17

From the Gospel according to Matthew

10The disciples came, and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”

11He answered them, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them.12For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have abundance;but whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he has.13Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they don’t see,and hearing, they don’t hear, neither do they understand.14In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says,

‘By hearing you will hear, and will in no way understand;Seeing you will see,and will in no way perceive;15for this people’s heart has grown callous, their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes;or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, and I would heal them.’

16“But blessed are your eyes, for they see;and your ears, for they hear.17For most certainly I tell you that many prophetsand righteous men desired to see the things which you see,and didn’t see them;and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:19-23

Quem ergo fructum habuístis tunc in illis, in quibus nunc erubéscitis? Nam finis illórum mors est. Nunc vero liberáti a peccáto, servi autem facti Deo, habétis fructum vestrum in sanctificatiónem, finem vero vitam ætérnam. Stipéndia enim peccáti mors. Grátia autem Dei vita ætérna, in Christo Jesu, Dómino nostro.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:19-23

Brethren: I speak in a human way because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you yielded your members as slaves of uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, so now yield your members as slaves of justice unto sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free as regards justice. But what fruit had you then from those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of these things is death. But now set free from sin and become slaves to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and as your end, life everlasting. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is life everlasting in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 7:15-21

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 7:15-21

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father in heaven shall enter the kingdom of heaven.

Dan 3:40

Sicut in holocáustis aríetum et taurórum, et sicut in mílibus agnórum pínguium: sic fiat sacrifícium nostrum in conspéctu tuo hódie, ut pláceat tibi: quia non est confúsio confidéntibus in te, Dómine.

Dan 3:40

As though it were holocausts of rams and bullocks, or thousands of fat lambs, so let our sacrifice be in Your presence today, that it may please You; for those who trust in You cannot be put to shame, O Lord.

O God, You Who have given us in one perfect sacrifice the fulfillment of the various sacrifices made under the Old Law, accept these sacrificial gifts offered You by Your devoted servants, and make them holy as You did the gifts of Abel, so that what each one of us has offered in praise of Your majesty may profit for the salvation of all.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
