First Reading2 Thessalonians 1:1-5, 11-12

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians

1Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,to the assembly of the Thessalonians in God our Fatherand the Lord Jesus Christ:2Grace to you and peace from God our Fatherand the Lord Jesus Christ.

3We are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers, even as it is appropriate, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of eachand every one of you toward one another abounds,4so that we ourselves boast about you in the assemblies of God for your perseveranceand faith in all your persecutionsand in the afflictions which you endure.5This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God,to the end that you may be counted worthy of God’s Kingdom, for which you also suffer.

verses 6–10 are not read11To this end we also pray always for youthat our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire of goodnessand work of faith with power,12that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you,and you in him, according to the grace of our Godand the Lord Jesus Christ.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 96:1-2a, 2b-3, 4-5*

1Sing to the Lord a new song!Sing to the Lord, all the earth.2Sing to the Lord!

2Bless his name!Proclaim his salvation from day to day!3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.

4For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised! He is to be feared above all gods.5For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

GospelMatthew 23:13-22

From the Gospel according to Matthew

13“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by seaand land to make one proselyte;and when he becomes one,you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves.

16“Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing;but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?18And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing;but whoever swears by the giftthat is on it, he is obligated.’19You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?20He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.21He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.22He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.

EpistleLectio

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Sap 10:10-14

Lesson from the book of Wisdom

Wis 10:10-14

She conducted the just, when he fled from his brother's wrath, through the right ways, and shewed him the kingdom of God, and gave him the knowledge of the holy things, made him honourable in his labours, and accomplished his labours. In the deceit of them that overreached him, she stood by him, and made him honourable. She kept him safe from his enemies, and she defended him from seducers, and gave him a strong conflict, that he might overcome, and know that wisdom is mightier than all. She forsook not the just when he was sold, but delivered him from sinners: she went down with him into the pit. And in bands she left him not, till she brought him the sceptre of the kingdom, and power against those that oppressed him: and shewed them to be liars that had accused him, and gave him everlasting glory.

Ja 1:12

Ps 91:13; 91:14

The just man shall flourish like the palm tree, like a cedar of Lebanon shall he grow in the house of the Lord.

Ps 91:3

℣.To proclaim Your kindness at dawn and Your faithfulness throughout the night. Alleluia, alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 19:12-26

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Homo quidam nóbilis ábiit in regionem longínquam accípere sibi regnum, et revérti.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 19:12-26

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: A certain nobleman went into a far country to obtain for himself a kingdom and then return. And having summoned ten of his servants, he gave them ten gold pieces and said to them, ‘Trade till I come.’ But his citizens hated him; and they sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not wish this man to be king over us.’ And it came to pass when he had returned, after receiving the kingdom, that he ordered the servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him in order that he might learn how much each one had made by trading. And the first came, saying, ‘Lord, your gold piece has earned ten gold pieces.’ And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant; because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten towns.’ Then the second came, saying, ‘Lord, your gold piece has made five gold pieces.’ And he said to him, ‘Be you also over five towns.’ And another came, saying, ‘Lord, behold your gold piece, which I have kept laid up in a napkin; for I feared you, because you are a stern man. You take up what you did not sow.’ He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I am a stern man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow. Why, then, did you not put my money in a bank, so that I on my return might have gotten it with interest?’ And he said to the bystanders, ‘Take away the gold piece from him, and give it to him who has the ten gold pieces.’ But they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten gold pieces.’ I say to you that to everyone who has shall be given; but from him who does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away.

And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
