First ReadingHebrews 5:1-10

From the Letter to the Hebrews

1For every high priest, being taken from among men,is appointed for men in things pertaining to God,that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.2The high priest can deal gently with thosewho are ignorant and going astray, because he himself is also surrounded with weakness.3Because of this, he must offer sacrifices for sins for the people,as well as for himself.4Nobody takes this honor on himself, but he is called by God,just like Aaron was.5So also Christ didn’t glorify himself to be made a high priest, but it was he who said to him,

“You are my Son.Today I have become your father.”

6As he says also in another place,

“You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.”

7He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong cryingand tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,8though he was a Son,yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered.9Having been made perfect,he became to all of thosewho obey him the author of eternal salvation,10named by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 110:1, 2, 3, 4

1The Lord says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet.”

2The Lord will send out the rod of your strength out of Zion.Rule among your enemies.

3Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power, in holy array.Out of the womb of the morning, you have the dew of your youth.

4The Lord has sworn, and will not change his mind:“You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

GospelMark 2:18-22

From the Gospel according to Mark

18John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and asked him,“Why do John’s disciplesand the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast?”

19Jesus said to them,“Can the groomsmen fast while the bridegroom is with them?As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they can’t fast.20But the days will comewhen the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.21No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment,or else the patch shrinksand the new tears away from the old,and a worse hole is made.22No one puts new wine into old wineskins;or else the new wine will burst the skins, and the wine pours out,and the skins will be destroyed;but they put new wine into fresh wineskins.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános.

Rom 12:6-16

Fratres: Habéntes donatiónes secúndum grátiam, quæ data est nobis, differéntes: sive prophetíam secúndum ratiónem fídei, sive ministérium in ministrándo, sive qui docet in doctrína, qui exhortátur in exhortándo, qui tríbuit in simplicitáte, qui præest in sollicitúdine, qui miserétur in hilaritáte. Diléctio sine simulatióne. Odiéntes malum, adhæréntes bono: Caritáte fraternitátis ínvicem diligéntes: Honóre ínvicem præveniéntes: Sollicitúdine non pigri: Spíritu fervéntes: Dómino serviéntes: Spe gaudéntes: In tribulatióne patiéntes: Oratióni instántes: Necessitátibus sanctórum communicántes: Hospitalitátem sectántes. Benedícite persequéntibus vos: benedícite, et nolíte maledícere. Gaudére cum gaudéntibus, flere cum fléntibus: Idípsum ínvicem sentiéntes: Non alta sapiéntes, sed humílibus consentiéntes.

Lesson from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans

Rom 12:6-16

Brethren: We have gifts differing according to the grace that has been given us, such as prophecy to be used according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, in ministering; or he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhorting; he who gives, in simplicity; he who presides, with carefulness; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be without pretense. Hate what is evil, hold to what is good. Love one another with honor. Be not slothful in zeal; be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope. Be patient in tribulation, persevering in prayer. Share the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Be of one mind towards one another. Do not set your mind on high things but condescend to the lowly.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem.

Joann 2:1-11

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 2:1-11

At that time, a marriage took place at Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now Jesus too was invited to the marriage, and also His disciples. And the wine having run short, the mother of Jesus said to Him, They have no wine. And Jesus said to her, What would you have me do, woman? My hour has not yet come. His mother said to the attendants, Do whatever He tells you. Now six stone water-jars were placed there, after the Jewish manner of purification, each holding two or three measures. Jesus said to them, Fill the jars with water. And they filled them to the brim. And Jesus said to them, Draw out now, and take to the chief steward. And they took it to him. Now when the chief steward had tasted the water after it had become wine, not knowing whence it was - though the attendants who had drawn the water knew, - the chief steward called the bridegroom, and said to him, Every man at first sets forth the good wine, and when they have drunk freely, then that which is poorer. But you have kept the good wine until now. This first of His signs Jesus worked at Cana of Galilee; and He manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:

John 2:7-11

The Lord said, Fill the jars with water and take to the chief steward. When the chief steward had tasted the water after it had become wine, he said to the bridegroom, You have kept the good wine until now. This first miracle Jesus worked in the presence of His disciples.
