First ReadingActs 5:17-26

From the Acts of the Apostles

17But the high priest rose up,and all thosewho were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees),and they were filled with jealousy18and laid hands on the apostles, then put them in public custody.19But an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out and said,20“Go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”

21When they heard this, they entered into the temple about daybreak and taught. But the high priest and those who were with him cameand called the council together, with all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.22But the officers who came didn’t find them in the prison. They returned and reported,23“We found the prison shut and locked, and the guards standing before the doors, but when we opened them,we found no one inside!”

24Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about themand what might become of this.25One came and told them,“Behold, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.”26Then the captain went with the officers, and brought them without violence, for they were afraid that the people might stone them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9

2I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.3My soul shall boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

4Oh magnify the Lord with me.Let’s exalt his name together.5I sought the Lord, and he answered me,and delivered me from all my fears.

6They looked to him, and were radiant.Their faces shall never be covered with shame.7This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him,and saved him out of all his troubles.

8The Lord’s angel encamps around those who fear him,and delivers them.9Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

GospelJohn 3:16-21

From the Gospel according to John

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son,that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.17For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.18He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only born Son of God.19This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil.20For everyone who does evil hates the lightand doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

1 Tim 5:3-10

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to Timothy

1 Tim. 5:3-10.

Dearly beloved: Honor widows, that are widows indeed. But if any widow have children or grandchildren, let her learn first to govern her own house, and to make a return of duty to her parents: for this is acceptable before God. But she that is a widow indeed and desolate, let her trust in God, and continue in prayers and supplications night and day. For she that liveth in pleasures, is dead while she is living. And this give in charge, that they may be blameless. But if any man have not care of his own, and especially of those of his house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Let a widow be chosen of no less than threescore years of age, who hath been the wife of one husband, having testimony for her good words, if she have brought up children, if she have received to harbor, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have ministered to them that suffer tribulation, if she have diligently followed every good work.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 7:11-16

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 7:11-16

At that time, Jesus went into a city called Naim; and His disciples and a large crowd went with Him. And as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was with her. And the Lord, seeing her, had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep. And He went up and touched the stretcher; and the bearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited His people.

Paschalis

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
