First ReadingRomans 11:29-36

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

29For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.30For as you in time past were disobedient to God,but now have obtained mercy by their disobedience,31even so these also have now been disobedient, that by the mercy shown to you they may also obtain mercy.32For God has bound all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all.

33Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdomand the knowledge of God!How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!

34“For who has known the mind of the Lord?Or who has been his counselor?”35“Or who has first given to him,and it will be repaid to him again?”

36For of him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory for ever! Amen.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 69:30-31, 33-34, 36

30But I am in pain and distress.Let your salvation, God, protect me.31I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

33The humble have seen it, and are glad. You who seek after God, let your heart live.34For the Lord hears the needy, and doesn’t despise his captive people.

36For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah. They shall settle there, and own it.

GospelLuke 14:12-14

From the Gospel according to Luke

12He also said to the one who had invited him,“When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors,or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.13But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;14and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you.For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”

Readings in the World English Bible (Catholic Edition), chosen by the Lectionary for Mass. The prayers of the Mass are in the Roman Missal.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Ephésios

Ephes 5:15-21

Subjecti ínvicem in timóre Christi.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians

Eph 5:15-21

Brethren: See to it that you walk with care: not as unwise but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not become foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, for in that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

Ps 107:2

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 4:46-53

In illo témpore: Erat quidam régulus, cujus fílius infirmabátur Caphárnaum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 4:46-53

At that time, there was a certain royal official whose son was lying sick at Capharnaum. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and besought Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders, you do not believe. The royal official said to Him, Sir, come down before my child dies. Jesus said to him, Go your way, your son lives. The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and departed. But even as he was now going down, his servants met him and brought word saying that his son lived. He asked of them therefore the hour in which he had got better. And they told him, Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him. The father knew then that it was at that very hour in which Jesus had said to him, Your son lives. And he himself believed, and his whole household.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
