First ReadingWisdom 12:13, 16-19

From the Book of Wisdom

13For there isn’t any God beside you that cares for all, that you might show that you didn’t judge unrighteously. verses 14–15 are not read16For your strength is the source of righteousness, and your sovereignty over all makes you to forbear all.17For when men don’t believe that you are perfect in power, you show your strength, and in dealing with those who think this, you confuse their boldness.18But you, being sovereign in strength, judge in gentleness, and with great forbearance you govern us;for the power is yours whenever you desire it.19But you taught your people by such works as these, how the righteous must be kind. You made your sons to have good hope, because you give repentance when men have sinned.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 86:5-6, 9-10, 15-16

5For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.6Hear, Lord, my prayer.Listen to the voice of my petitions.

9All nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord. They shall glorify your name.10For you are great, and do wondrous things. You are God alone.

15But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God,slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth.16Turn to me, and have mercy on me!Give your strength to your servant.Save the son of your servant.

Second ReadingRomans 8:26-27

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

26In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groaningswhich can’t be uttered.27He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.

GospelMatthew 13:24-43

From the Gospel according to Matthew

or Matthew 13:24-30

24He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a manwho sowed good seed in his field,25but while people slept, his enemy cameand sowed darnel weeds also among the wheat, and went away.26But when the blade sprang up and produced grain, then the darnel weeds appeared also.27The servants of the householder came and said to him,‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field?Where did these darnel weeds come from?’

28“He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’

“The servants asked him,‘Do you want us to go and gather them up?’

29“But he said, ‘No,lest perhaps while you gather up the darnel weeds, you root up the wheat with them.30Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest time I will tell the reapers,“First, gather up the darnel weeds, and bind them in bundles to burn them;but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”

31He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took, and sowed in his field,32which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown,it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree,so that the birds of the air comeand lodge in its branches.”

33He spoke another parable to them.“The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeastwhich a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened.”

34Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes;and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them,35that it might be fulfilledwhich was spoken through the prophet, saying,

“I will open my mouth in parables;I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”

36Then Jesus sent the multitudes away, and went into the house. His disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the darnel weeds of the field.”

37He answered them, “Hewho sows the good seed is the Son of Man,38the field is the world, the good seeds are the children of the Kingdom, and the darnel weeds are the children of the evil one.39The enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age,and the reapers are angels.40As therefore the darnel weeds are gathered upand burned with fire;so will it be at the end of this age.41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his Kingdom all thingsthat cause stumbling and those who do iniquity,42and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:3-11

Fratres: Quicúmque baptizáti sumus in Christo Jesu, in morte ipsíus baptizáti sumus.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:3-11.

Brethren: All we who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death. For we were buried with Him by means of Baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ has arisen from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in the likeness of His death, we shall be so in the likeness of His resurrection also. For we know that our old self has been crucified with Him, in order that the body of sin may be destroyed, that we may no longer be slaves to sin; for he who is dead is acquitted of sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live together with Christ; for we know that Christ, having risen from the dead, dies now no more, death shall no longer have dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives unto God. Thus do you consider yourselves also as dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Marcum

Marc 8:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Mark

Mark 8:1-9

At that time, when there was a great crowd with Jesus, and they had nothing to eat, He called His disciples together and said to them, I have compassion on the crowd, for behold, they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat; and if I send them away to their homes fasting, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come from a distance. And His disciples answered Him, How will anyone be able to satisfy these with bread, here in a desert? And He asked them, How many loaves have you? And they said, Seven. And He bade the crowd recline on the ground. Then taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to distribute; and they set them before the crowd. And they had a few little fishes; and He blessed them, and ordered them to be distributed. And they ate and were satisfied; and they took up what was left of the fragments, seven baskets. Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He dismissed them.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
