First ReadingTitus 2:1-8, 11-14

From the Letter of Paul to Titus

1But say the things which fit sound doctrine,2that older men should be temperate, sensible, sober minded, sound in faith, in love, and in perseverance,3and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good,4that they may train the young wives to love their husbands,to love their children,5to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God’s word may not be blasphemed.

6Likewise, exhort the younger men to be sober minded.7In all things show yourself an example of good works. In your teaching, show integrity, seriousness, incorruptibility,8and soundness of speech that can’t be condemned, that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us. verses 9–10 are not read11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,12instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age;13looking for the blessed hopeand appearing of the glory of our great Godand Savior, Jesus Christ,14who gave himself for us,that he might redeem us from all iniquityand purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 37:3-4, 18 and 23, 27 and 29

3Trust in the Lord, and do good.Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.4Also delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

18The Lord knows the days of the perfect.Their inheritance shall be forever.23A man’s steps are established by the Lord.He delights in his way.

27Depart from evil, and do good.Live securely forever.29The righteous shall inherit the land, and live in it forever.

GospelLuke 17:7-10

From the Gospel according to Luke

7But who is there among you, having a servant plowing or keeping sheep, that will say when he comes in from the field,‘Come immediately and sit down at the table’?8Wouldn’t he rather tell him,‘Prepare my supper, clothe yourself properly, and serve me while I eat and drink.Afterward you shall eat and drink’?9Does he thank that servantbecause he did the things that were commanded?I think not.10Even so you also, when you have done all the thingsthat are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants. We have done our duty.’”

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Eccli 31:8-11

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

Ja 1:12

Ps 91:13; 91:14

The just man shall flourish like the palm tree, like a cedar of Lebanon shall he grow in the house of the Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
