First ReadingJudges 2:11-19

From the Book of Judges

11The children of Israel did thatwhich was evil in the Lord’s sight, and served the Baals.12They abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods,of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them;and they provoked the Lord to anger.13They abandoned the Lord, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.14The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them.He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around,so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.15Wherever they went out,the Lord’s hand was against them for evil,as the Lord had spoken, and as the Lord had sworn to them;and they were very distressed.16The Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.17Yet they didn’t listen to their judges;for they prostituted themselves to other gods, and bowed themselves down to them. They quickly turned away from the way inwhich their fathers walked, obeying the Lord’s commandments. They didn’t do so.18When the Lord raised up judges for them, then the Lord was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge;for it grieved the Lordbecause of their groaning by reason of thosewho oppressed them and troubled them.19But when the judge was dead, they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers in following other gods to serve themand to bow down to them. They didn’t cease what they were doing,or give up their stubborn ways.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 106:34-35, 36-37, 39-40, 43ab and 44

34They didn’t destroy the peoples,as the Lord commanded them,35but mixed themselves with the nations, and learned their works.

36They served their idols, which became a snare to them.37Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.

39Thus they were defiled with their works, and prostituted themselves in their deeds.40Therefore the Lord burned with anger against his people. He abhorred his inheritance.

43He rescued them many times, but they were rebellious in their counsel, and were brought low in their iniquity.44Nevertheless he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry.

GospelMatthew 19:16-22

From the Gospel according to Matthew

16Behold, one came to him and said,“Good teacher, what good thing shall I do,that I may have eternal life?”

17He said to him, “Why do you call me good?No one is good but one, that is, God.But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

18He said to him, “Which ones?”

Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder.’‘You shall not commit adultery.’‘You shall not steal.’‘You shall not offer false testimony.’19‘Honor your father and your mother.’And, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

20The young man said to him,“All these things I have observed from my youth. What do I still lack?”

21Jesus said to him,“If you want to be perfect,go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven;and come, follow me.”22But when the young man heard this,he went away sad, for he was onewho had great possessions.

Prov 31:10-31

Lesson from the book of Proverbs

Prov 31:10-31

When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and makes cloth with skillful hands. Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar. She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household. She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms. She enjoys the success of her dealings; at night her lamp is undimmed. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed. She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing. Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land. She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel. She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness. Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her: Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all. Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 13:44-52

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 13:44-52.

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; he who finds it hides it, and in his joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he finds a single pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea that gathered in fish of every kind. When it was filled, they hauled it out, and sitting down on the beach, they gathered the good fish into vessels, but threw away the bad. So will it be at the end of the world. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from among the just, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth. Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes. And He said to them, So then, every Scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings forth from his storeroom things new and old.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
