First ReadingDaniel 3:25, 34-43

From the Book of Daniel

25Then Azarias stood, and prayed like this.Opening his mouth in the midst of the fire he said, verses 26–33 are not read34Don’t utterly deliver us up, for your name’s sake.Don’t annul your covenant.35Don’t cause your mercy to depart from us,for the sake of Abraham who is loved by you,and for the sake of Isaac your servant, and Israel your holy one,36to whom you promisedthat you would multiply their offspring as the stars of the sky,and as the sand that is on the sea shore.37For we, O Lord, have become less than any nation, and are brought low this day in all the worldbecause of our sins.38There isn’t at this time prince,or prophet, or leader,or burnt offering,or sacrifice, or oblation,or incense, or place to offer before you,and to find mercy.39Nevertheless in a contrite heartand a humble spirit let us be accepted,40like the burnt offerings of rams and bullocks, and like ten thousands of fat lambs. So let our sacrifice be in your sight this day, that we may wholly go after you,for they shall not be ashamed who put their trust in you.41And now we follow you with all our heart. We fear you, and seek your face.42Put us not to shame;but deal with us after your kindness, and according to the multitude of your mercy.43Deliver us also according to your marvelous works, and give glory to your name, O Lord.Let all those who harm your servants be confounded.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 25:4-5ab, 6 and 7bc, 8-9

4Show me your ways, Lord.Teach me your paths.5Guide me in your truth, and teach me,for you are the God of my salvation.I wait for you all day long.

6Lord, remember your tender mercies and your loving kindness, for they are from old times.7Don’t remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions.Remember me according to your loving kindness, for your goodness’ sake, Lord.

8Good and upright is the Lord, therefore he will instruct sinners in the way.9He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way.

GospelMatthew 18:21-35

From the Gospel according to Matthew

21Then Peter came and said to him,“Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me,and I forgive him?Until seven times?”

22Jesus said to him,“I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven.23Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain kingwho wanted to settle accounts with his servants.24When he had begun to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.25But because he couldn’t pay,his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had,and payment to be made.26The servant therefore fell down and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me,and I will repay you all!’27The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him and forgave him the debt.

28“But that servant went outand found one of his fellow servantswho owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

29“So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me,and I will repay you!’30He would not, but wentand cast him into prison until he should pay back that which was due.31So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told their lord all that was done.32Then his lord called him in and said to him,‘You wicked servant!I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.33Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’34His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay allthat was due to him.35So my heavenly Father will also do to you,if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds.”

Léctio libri Regum.

4 Reg 4:1-7

Dic mihi, quid habes in domo tua? At illa respóndit: Non hábeo ancílla tua quidquam in domo mea, nisi parum ólei, quo ungar.

Lesson from the book of Kings

4 Kings 4:1-7

In those days, a certain woman cried to the Prophet Eliseus, saying, Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you know that your servant was one who feared God: and behold the creditor is come to take away my two sons to serve him. And Eliseus said to her, What will you have me to do for you? Tell me, what have you in your house? And she answered, I your handmaid have nothing in my house but a little oil, to anoint me. And he said to her, Go, borrow of all your neighbors empty vessels not a few. And go in, and shut your door, when you are within, and your sons; and pour out thereof into all those vessels: and when they are full take them away. So the woman went, and shut the door upon her, and upon her sons: they brought her the vessels, and she poured in. And when the vessels were full, and she said to her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he answered, I have no more. And the oil stood. And she came, and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay your creditor; and you and your sons live off the rest.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

Matt 18:15-22

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 18:15-22

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: If your brother sin against you, go and show him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listen to you, you have won your brother. But if he do not listen to you, take with you one or two more so that on the word of two or three witnesses every word may be confirmed. And if he refuse to hear them, appeal to the Church, but if he refuse to hear even the Church, let him be to you as the heathen and the publican. Amen I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound also in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed also in heaven. I say to you further, that if two of you shall agree on earth about anything at all for which they ask, it shall be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together for My sake, there am I in the midst of them. Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.

Lent

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who by this bodily fast, dost curb our vices, dost lift up our minds and bestow on us strength and rewards; through Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:
