First Reading2 Timothy 1:1-3, 6-12

From the Second Letter of Paul to Timothy

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God,according to the promise of the lifewhich is in Christ Jesus,2to Timothy, my beloved child:Grace, mercy, and peace,from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3I thank God, whom I serve as my forefathers did,with a pure conscience.How unceasing is my memory of you in my petitions, night and day

verses 4–5 are not read6For this cause, I remind youthat you should stir up the gift of Godwhich is in you through the laying on of my hands.7For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear,but of power, love, and self-control.8Therefore don’t be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord,nor of me his prisoner;but endure hardship for the Good News according to the power of God,9who saved us and called us with a holy calling,not according to our works,but according to his own purpose and grace,which was given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,10but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior,Christ Jesus, who abolished death,and brought lifeand immortality to light through the Good News.11For this I was appointed as a preacher,an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.12For this cause I also suffer these things.

Yet I am not ashamed,for I know him whom I have believed,and I am persuaded that he is able to guard thatwhich I have committed to him against that day.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 123:1-2a, 2bcd

1I lift up my eyes to you,you who sit in the heavens.2Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master,as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,so our eyes look to the Lord, our God,until he has mercy on us.

GospelMark 12:18-27

From the Gospel according to Mark

18Some Sadducees, who saythat there is no resurrection, came to him.They asked him, saying,19“Teacher, Moses wrote to us,‘If a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife behind him,and leaves no children,that his brother should take his wifeand raise up offspring for his brother.’20There were seven brothers.The first took a wife, and dying left no offspring.21The second took her,and died, leaving no children behind him.The third likewise;22and the seven took her and left no children.Last of all the woman also died.23In the resurrection,when they rise, whose wife will she be of them?For the seven had her as a wife.”

24Jesus answered them,“Isn’t this because you are mistaken,not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God?25For when they will rise from the dead,they neither marry nor are given in marriage,but are like angels in heaven.26But about the dead,that they are raised,haven’t you read in the book of Moses about the Bush,how God spoke to him,saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham,the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.You are therefore badly mistaken.”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Act 2:14-21.

Deo gratias.

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 2:14-21.

In those days, Peter, standing up with the Eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them: Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. These men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says the Lord, that I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. And moreover upon My servants and upon My handmaids in those days will I pour forth of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth beneath, blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and manifest day. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

Thanks be to God.

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 5:12-16

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 5:12-16

In those days, by the hands of the Apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And with one accord they all would meet in Solomon’s portico; but of the rest, no one dared to associate with them, yet the people made much of them. And the multitude of men and women who believed in the Lord increased still more, so that they carried the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and pallets that, when Peter passed, his shadow at least might fall on some of them. And there came also multitudes from the towns near Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those troubled with unclean spirits, and they were all cured.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 6:44-52

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus turbis Judæórum: Nemo potest veníre ad me, nisi Pater, qui misit me, tráxerit eum: et ego resuscitábo eum in novíssimo die. Est scriptum in Prophétis: Et erunt omnes docíbiles Dei. Omnis, qui audívit a Patre et dídicit, venit ad me. Non quia Patrem vidit quisquam, nisi is, qui est a Deo, hic vidit Patrem. Amen, amen, dico vobis: qui credit in me, habet vitam ætérnam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 6:44-52.

At that time, Jesus said to the Jews: No one can come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me draw him, and I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, “And they all shall be taught of God.” Everyone who has listened to the Father, and has learned, comes to Me; not that anyone has seen the Father except Him Who is from God, He has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, he who believes in Me has life everlasting. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the desert, and have died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that if anyone eat of it he will not die. I am the living bread that has come down from heaven. If anyone eat of this bread he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give is My flesh for the life of the world.
