First ReadingJeremiah 13:1-11

From the Book of Jeremiah

1The Lord said to me,“Go, and buy yourself a linen belt, and put it on your waist, and don’t put it in water.”

2So I bought a belt according to the Lord’s word, and put it on my waist.

3The Lord’s word came to me the second time, saying,4“Take the belt that you have bought, which is on your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.”

5So I went and hid it by the Euphrates,as the Lord commanded me.

6After many days, the Lord said to me,“Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the belt from there, which I commanded you to hide there.”

7Then I went to the Euphrates, and dug, and took the belt from the place where I had hidden it;and behold, the belt was ruined. It was profitable for nothing.

8Then the Lord’s word came to me, saying,9“The Lord says, ‘In this way I will ruin the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.10This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods to serve themand to worship them, will even be as this belt, which is profitable for nothing.11For as the belt clings to the waist of a man,so I have caused the whole house of Israeland the whole house of Judah to cling to me,’ says the Lord;‘that they may be to me for a people, for a name, for praise, and for glory;but they would not hear.’

Responsorial PsalmDeuteronomy 32:18-19, 20, 21

From the Book of Deuteronomy

18Of the Rock who became your father, you are unmindful, and have forgotten God who gave you birth.19The Lord saw and abhorred, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

20He said, “I will hide my face from them.I will see what their end will be;for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.

21They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God.They have provoked me to anger with their vanities.I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people.I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

GospelMatthew 13:31-35

From the Gospel according to Matthew

31He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took, and sowed in his field,32which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown,it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree,so that the birds of the air comeand lodge in its branches.”

33He spoke another parable to them.“The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeastwhich a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened.”

34Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes;and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them,35that it might be fulfilledwhich was spoken through the prophet, saying,

“I will open my mouth in parables;I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

2 Tim 2:8-10; 3:10-12.

Lesson from the second letter of St Paul the Apostle to Timothy

2 Tim. 2:8-10; 3:10-12.

Beloved: Remember that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and was descended from David; this is my Gospel, in which I suffer even to bonds, as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound. This is why I bear all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory. But you have closely followed my doctrine, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my long-suffering, my love, my patience, my persecutions, my afflictions; such as befell me at Antioch, Iconium and Lystra - such persecutions as I suffered, and out of them all the Lord delivered me. And all who want to live piously in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

Ja 1:12

Beátus vir, qui suffert tentatiónem: quóniam, cum probátus fúerit, accípiet corónam vitæ. Allelúja.

Ps 91:13; 91:14

The just man shall flourish like the palm tree, like a cedar of Lebanon shall he grow in the house of the Lord.

Ps 91:3

℣.To proclaim Your kindness at dawn and Your faithfulness throughout the night. Alleluia, alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:1-9

At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them forth two by two before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest. Go. Behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry neither purse, nor wallet, nor sandals, and greet no one on the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace be there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they have; for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And whatever town you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you, and cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’
