First ReadingZechariah 8:1-8

From the Book of Zechariah

1The word of the Lord of Armies came to me.2The Lord of Armies says:“I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.”

3The Lord says:“I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the middle of Jerusalem.Jerusalem shall be called ‘The City of Truth;’and the mountain of the Lord of Armies,‘The Holy Mountain.’”

4The Lord of Armies says:“Old men and old women will again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his handbecause of their old age.5The streets of the city will be full of boysand girls playing in its streets.”

6The Lord of Armies says:“If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?”says the Lord of Armies.

7The Lord of Armies says:“Behold, I will save my people from the east countryand from the west country.8I will bring them, and they will dwell within Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God,in truth and in righteousness.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 102:16-18, 19-21, 29 and 22-23

16So the nations will fear the Lord’s name, all the kings of the earth your glory.17For the Lord has built up Zion.He has appeared in his glory.18He has responded to the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer.

19This will be written for the generation to come.A people which will be created will praise the Lord,20for he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary. From heaven, the Lord saw the earth,21to hear the groans of the prisoner,to free those who are condemned to death,

29The children of your servants will continue.Their offspring will be established before you.”22that men may declare the Lord’s name in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem,23when the peoples are gathered together, the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

GospelLuke 9:46-50

From the Gospel according to Luke

46An argument arose among them aboutwhich of them was the greatest.47Jesus, perceiving the reasoning of their hearts, took a little child, and set him by his side,48and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me.Whoever receives me receives him who sent me.For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great.”

49John answered, “Master,we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow with us.”

50Jesus said to him,“Don’t forbid him,for he who is not against us is for us.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Ephésios

Ephes 5:15-21

Subjecti ínvicem in timóre Christi.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians

Eph 5:15-21

Brethren: See to it that you walk with care: not as unwise but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not become foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, for in that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

Ps 107:2

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 4:46-53

In illo témpore: Erat quidam régulus, cujus fílius infirmabátur Caphárnaum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 4:46-53

At that time, there was a certain royal official whose son was lying sick at Capharnaum. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and besought Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders, you do not believe. The royal official said to Him, Sir, come down before my child dies. Jesus said to him, Go your way, your son lives. The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and departed. But even as he was now going down, his servants met him and brought word saying that his son lived. He asked of them therefore the hour in which he had got better. And they told him, Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him. The father knew then that it was at that very hour in which Jesus had said to him, Your son lives. And he himself believed, and his whole household.
