First ReadingJames 5:9-12

From the Letter of James

9Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another,so that you won’t be judged.Behold, the judge stands at the door.10Take, brothers, for an example of sufferingand of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.11Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Joband have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

12But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear—not by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath;but let your “yes” be “yes”,and your “no”, “no”,so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 103:1-2, 3-4, 8-9, 11-12

1Praise the Lord, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!2Praise the Lord, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits,

3who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,4who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

8The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.9He will not always accuse;neither will he stay angry forever.

11For as the heavens are high above the earth,so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him.12As far as the east is from the west,so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

GospelMark 10:1-12

From the Gospel according to Mark

1He arose from there and came into the borders of Judeaand beyond the Jordan.Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them.

2Pharisees came to him testing him,and asked him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”

3He answered, “What did Moses command you?”

4They said, “Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her.”

5But Jesus said to them,“For your hardness of heart,he wrote you this commandment.6But from the beginning of the creation,God made them male and female.7For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife,8and the two will become one flesh,so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.9What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

10In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter.11He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wifeand marries another commits adultery against her.12If a woman herself divorces her husbandand marries another, she commits adultery.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Brethren: Do you not know that those who run in a race, all indeed run, but one receives the prize? So run as to obtain it. And everyone in a contest abstains from all things - and they indeed to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable. I, therefore, so run as not without a purpose; I so fight as not beating the air; but I chastise my body and bring it into subjection, lest perhaps after preaching to others I myself should be rejected. For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, all were baptized in Moses, in the cloud and in the sea. And all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink for they drank from the spiritual rock which followed them, and the rock was Christ. Yet with most of them God was not well pleased.

Ps 9:10-11; 9:19-20

Adjútor in opportunitátibus, in tribulatióne: sperent in te, qui novérunt te: quóniam non derelínquis quæréntes te, Dómine,

℣.Quóniam non in finem oblívio erit páuperis: patiéntia páuperum non períbit in ætérnum: exsúrge, Dómine, non præváleat homo.

Ps 9:10-11; 9:19-20

A helper in due time in tribulation. Let them trust in thee who know thy name: for thou hast not forsaken them that seek thee, O Lord.

For the poor man shall not be forgotten to the end: the patience of the poor shall not perish for ever. Arise, O Lord, let not man be strengthened.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 20:1-16

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 20:1-16

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. And having agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And about the third hour, he went out and saw others standing in the market place idle; and he said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard, and I will give you whatever is just.’ So they went. And again he went out about the sixth, and about the ninth hour, and did as before. But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing about and he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here all day idle?’ They said to him, ‘Because no man has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard.’ But when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers, and pay them their wages, beginning from the last even to the first.’ Now when they of the eleventh hour came, they received each a denarius. And when the first in their term came, they thought that they would receive more; but they also received each his denarius. And on receiving it, they began to murmur against the householder, saying, ‘These last have worked a single hour, and you have put them on a level with us, who have borne the burden of the day’s heat.’ But answering one of them, he said, ‘Friend, I do you no injustice; did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go; I choose to give to this last even as to you. Have I not a right to do what I choose? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ Even so the last shall be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
