First ReadingTobit 11:5-17*

From the Book of Tobit

5Anna sat looking around toward the path for her son.6She saw him coming, and said to his father,“Behold, your son is coming with the manthat went with him!”

7Raphael said, “I know,Tobias, that your father will open his eyes.8Therefore anoint his eyes with the bile, and being pricked with it,he will rub, and will make the white films fall away. Then he will see you.”

9Anna ran to him, and fell upon the neck of her son,and said to him, “I have seen you, my child!I am ready to die.”They both wept.

10Tobit went toward the door and stumbled;but his son ran to him,11and took hold of his father. He rubbed the bile on his father’s eyes, saying, “Cheer up, my father.”12When his eyes began to hurt, he rubbed them.13Then the white films peeled away from the corners of his eyes;and he saw his son, and fell upon his neck.

14He wept, and said,“Blessed are you, O God,and blessed is your name forever!Blessed are all your holy angels!15For you scourged, and had mercy on me.Behold, I see my son Tobias.”And his son went in rejoicing, and told his father the great thingsthat had happened to him in Media.

16Tobit went out to meet his daughter-in-law at the gate of Nineveh, rejoicing and blessing God.Those who saw him go marveled, because he had received his sight.17Tobit gave thanks before them, because God had shown mercy on him. When Tobit came near to Sarah his daughter-in-law,he blessed her, saying,“Welcome, daughter!Blessed is God who has brought you to us,and blessed are your father and your mother.”And there was joy among all his kindredwho were at Nineveh.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 146:1-2, 6c-7, 8-9a, 9bc-10*

1Praise the Lord!Praise the Lord, my soul.2While I live, I will praise the Lord.I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist.

6who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them;who keeps truth forever;7who executes justice for the oppressed;who gives food to the hungry. The Lord frees the prisoners.

8The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord raises up those who are bowed down. The Lord loves the righteous.9The Lord preserves the foreigners.

9He upholds the fatherless and widow, but he turns the way of the wicked upside down.10The Lord will reign forever;your God, O Zion, to all generations.Praise the Lord!

GospelMark 12:35-37

From the Gospel according to Mark

35Jesus responded, as he taught in the temple,“How is it that the scribes saythat the Christ is the son of David?36For David himself said in the Holy Spirit,

‘The Lord said to my Lord,“Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’

37Therefore David himself calls him Lord,so how can he be his son?”

The common people heard him gladly.
