First Reading1 Corinthians 3:1-9

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

1Brothers, I couldn’t speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly,as to babies in Christ.2I fed you with milk, not with solid food, for you weren’t yet ready.Indeed, you aren’t ready even now,3for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy, strife, and factions among you, aren’t you fleshly, and don’t you walk in the ways of men?4For when one says,“I follow Paul,” and another,“I follow Apollos,”aren’t you fleshly?

5Who then is Apollos, and who is Paul, but servants through whom you believed, and each as the Lord gave to him?6I planted. Apollos watered. But God gave the increase.7So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.8Now he who plants and he who waters are the same, but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.9For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s farming, God’s building.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 33:12-13, 14-15, 20-21

12Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.13The Lord looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men.

14From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,15he who fashions all of their hearts;and he considers all of their works.

20Our soul has waited for the Lord.He is our help and our shield.21For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

GospelLuke 4:38-44

From the Gospel according to Luke

38He rose up from the synagogueand entered into Simon’s house.Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him to help her.39He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her.Immediately she rose up and served them.40When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him;and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.41Demons also came out of many, crying out and saying,“You are the Christ, the Son of God!”Rebuking them, he didn’t allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

42When it was day, he departedand went into an uninhabited placeand the multitudes looked for him,and came to him, and held on to him,so that he wouldn’t go away from them.43But he said to them,“I must preach the good news of God’s Kingdom to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent.”44He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Eccli 31:8-11

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

Ja 1:12

Ps 91:13; 91:14

The just man shall flourish like the palm tree, like a cedar of Lebanon shall he grow in the house of the Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
