First Reading2 Corinthians 11:1-11

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

1I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness, but indeed you do bear with me.2For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I promised you in marriage to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.3But I am afraid that somehow,as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness,so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.4For if he who comes preaches another Jesuswhom we didn’t preach,or if you receive a different spiritwhich you didn’t receive,or a different “good news” which you didn’t accept, you put up with that well enough.5For I reckonthat I am not at all behind the very best apostles.6But though I am unskilled in speech, yet I am not unskilled in knowledge. No, in every way we have been revealed to you in all things.

7Or did I commit a sin in humbling myselfthat you might be exalted, because I preached to you God’s Good News free of charge?8I robbed other assemblies, taking wages from them that I might serve you.9When I was present with you and was in need,I wasn’t a burden on anyone, for the brothers, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my need.In everything I kept myself from being burdensome to you,and I will continue to do so.10As the truth of Christ is in me,no one will stop me from this boasting in the regions of Achaia.11Why? Because I don’t love you? God knows.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 111:1b-2, 3-4, 7-8

1Praise the Lord!I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,in the council of the upright, and in the congregation.2The Lord’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.

3His work is honor and majesty. His righteousness endures forever.4He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered. The Lord is gracious and merciful.

7The works of his hands are truth and justice. All his precepts are sure.8They are established forever and ever. They are done in truth and uprightness.

GospelMatthew 6:7-15

From the Gospel according to Matthew

7In praying, don’t use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do;for they thinkthat they will be heard for their much speaking.8Therefore don’t be like them, for your Father knows what things you need before you ask him.9Pray like this:

“‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.10Let your Kingdom come.Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.11Give us today our daily bread.12Forgive us our debts,as we also forgive our debtors.13Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’

14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
