First Reading1 Kings 17:17-24*

From the First Book of Kings

17After these things, the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick;and his sickness was so severethat there was no breath left in him.18She said to Elijah,“What have I to do with you, you man of God?You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!”

19He said to her, “Give me your son.”He took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed.20He cried to the Lord and said,“Lord my God, have you also brought evil on the widow with whom I am staying,by killing her son?”

21He stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to the Lord and said,“Lord my God, please let this child’s soul come into him again.”

22The Lord listened to the voice of Elijah;and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.23Elijah took the childand brought him down out of the room into the house, and delivered him to his mother;and Elijah said, “Behold, your son lives.”

24The woman said to Elijah,“Now I know that you are a man of God,and that the Lord’s word in your mouth is truth.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 30:2 and 4, 5-6, 11 and 12a and 13b*

2I will extol you, Lord, for you have raised me up,and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.4Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol. You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

5Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of his.Give thanks to his holy name.6For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime.Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

11Hear, Lord, and have mercy on me.Lord, be my helper.”12You have turned my mourning into dancing for me.You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness,13to the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent.Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Second ReadingGalatians 1:11-19*

From the Letter of Paul to the Galatians

11But I make known to you, brothers, concerning the Good Newswhich was preached by me,that it is not according to man.12For I didn’t receive it from man,nor was I taught it,but it came to me through revelation of Jesus Christ.13For you have heard of my way of living in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the assembly of God and ravaged it.14I advanced in the Jews’ religion beyond many of my own age among my countrymen, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.15But when it was the good pleasure of God,who separated me from my mother’s womband called me through his grace,16to reveal his Son in me,that I might preach him among the Gentiles,I didn’t immediately confer with flesh and blood,17nor did I go up to Jerusalem to thosewho were apostles before me,but I went away into Arabia. Then I returned to Damascus.

18Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Peter, and stayed with him fifteen days.19But of the other apostles I saw no one except James, the Lord’s brother.

GospelLuke 7:11-17*

From the Gospel according to Luke

11Soon afterwards, he went to a city called Nain. Many of his disciples, along with a great multitude, went with him.12Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, one who was dead was carried out,the only born son of his mother, and she was a widow. Many people of the city were with her.13When the Lord saw her,he had compassion on her and said to her, “Don’t cry.”14He came near and touched the coffin, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!”15He who was dead sat up and began to speak. Then he gave him to his mother.

16Fear took hold of all,and they glorified God,saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!”and, “God has visited his people!”17This report went out concerning him in the whole of Judeaand in all the surrounding region.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:18-23

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:18-23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 5:1-11

Ascéndens autem in unam navim, quæ erat Simónis, rogávit eum a terra redúcere pusíllum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 5:1-11

At that time, while the crowds were pressing upon Jesus to hear the word of God, He was standing by Lake Genesareth. And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s, He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
