First ReadingEphesians 6:10-20

From the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians

10Finally, be strong in the Lordand in the strength of his might.11Put on the whole armor of God,that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age,and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.13Therefore put on the whole armor of God,that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,and having done all, to stand.14Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,15and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace,16above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;18with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseveranceand requests for all the saints.19Pray for me,that utterance may be given to me in opening my mouth,to make known with boldness the mystery of the Good News,20for which I am an ambassador in chains;that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 144:1b, 2, 9-10

1Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands to war,and my fingers to battle—

2my loving kindness, my fortress,my high tower, my deliverer,my shield, and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues my people under me.

9I will sing a new song to you, God.On a ten-stringed lyre, I will sing praises to you.10You are he who gives salvation to kings, who rescues David, his servant, from the deadly sword.

GospelLuke 13:31-35

From the Gospel according to Luke

31On that same day, some Pharisees came, saying to him, “Get out of here and go away, for Herod wants to kill you.”

32He said to them, “Go and tell that fox,‘Behold, I cast out demonsand perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I complete my mission.33Nevertheless I must go on my way todayand tomorrow and the next day,for it can’t bethat a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.’

34“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophetsand stones those who are sent to her!How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!35Behold, your house is left to you desolate.I tell you, you will not see me until you say,‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Philippénses

Phil 1:6-11

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Philippians

Phil 1:6-11

Brethren: We are confident in the Lord Jesus that He Who has begun a good work in you will bring it to perfection until the day of Christ Jesus. And I have the right to feel so about you all, because I have you in my heart, all of you, alike in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, as sharers in my joy. For God is my witness how I long for you all in the heart of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your charity may more and more abound in knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the better things, that you may be upright and without offense unto the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:15-21

Cógnita autem Jesus nequítia eórum, ait: Quid me tentátis, hypócritæ? Osténdite mihi numísma census. At illi obtulérunt ei denárium. Et ait illis Jesus: Cujus est imágo hæc et superscríptio? Dicunt ei: Cǽsaris. Tunc ait illis: Réddite ergo, quæ sunt Cǽsaris, Cǽsari; et, quæ sunt Dei, Deo.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:15-21

At that time, the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might trap Jesus in His talk. And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that You are truthful, and that You teach the way of God in truth, and that You care naught for any man; for You do not regard the person of men. Tell us, therefore, what do You think: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the coin of the tribute. So they offered Him a denarius. Then Jesus said to them, Whose are this image and the inscription? They said to Him, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Render, therefore, to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
