First Reading1 John 2:22-28

From the First Letter of John

22Who is the liar but he who deniesthat Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist,he who denies the Father and the Son.23Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.

24Therefore, as for you,let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you,you also will remain in the Son,and in the Father.25This is the promisewhich he promised us, the eternal life.

26These things I have written to you concerning thosewho would lead you astray.27As for you, the anointingwhich you received from him remains in you,and you don’t need for anyone to teach you.But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie,and even as it taught you,you will remain in him.

28Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears,we may have boldnessand not be ashamed before him at his coming.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4

1Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

2The Lord has made known his salvation. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations.3He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel.

3All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.4Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!

GospelJohn 1:19-28

From the Gospel according to John

19This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priestsand Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

20He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.”

21They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”

He said, “I am not.”

“Are you the prophet?”

He answered, “No.”

22They said therefore to him, “Who are you?Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us.What do you say about yourself?”

23He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness,‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’as Isaiah the prophet said.”

24The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.25They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

26John answered them,“I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.27He is the one who comes after me,who is preferred before me,whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”28These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Titum

Tit 3:4-7

Caríssime: Appáruit benígnitas et humánitas Salvatóris nostri Dei: non ex opéribus justítiæ, quæ fécimus nos, sed secúndum suam misericórdiam salvos nos fecit, per lavácrum regeneratiónis et renovatiónis Spíritus Sancti, quem effúdit in nos abúnde per Jesum Christum, Salvatórem nostrum: ut, justificáti grátia ipsíus, herédes simus secúndum spem vitæ ætérnæ: in Christo Jesu, Dómino nostro.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to Titus

Titus 3:4-7

Dearly beloved: When the goodness and kindness of God our Saviour appeared, then not by reason of good works that we did ourselves, but according to His mercy, He saved us through the bath of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit; Whom He has abundantly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Saviour, in order that, justified by His grace, we may be heirs in the hope of life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 2:15-20

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 2:15-20

At that time, the shepherds were saying to one another, Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. So they went with haste, and they found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in the manger. And when they had seen, they understood what had been told them concerning this Child. And all who heard marveled at the things told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept in mind all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken to them.

Blessed Virgin

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and that we should praise and bless, and proclaim Thee, in the veneration of the Blessed Mary, ever-Virgin: Who also conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost, and the glory of her virginity still abiding, gave forth to the world the everlasting Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, and the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:
