First ReadingSirach 4:11-19

From the Book of Sirach

11Wisdom exalts her sons, and takes hold of those who seek her.12He who loves her loves life. Those who seek her early will be filled with gladness.13He who holds her fast will inherit glory.Where he enters, the Lord will bless.14Those who serve her minister to the Holy One.The Lord loves those who love her.15He who listens to her will judge the nations. He who heeds her will dwell securely.16If he trusts her, he will inherit her,and his generations will possess her.17For at the first she will walk with him in crooked ways, and will bring fear and dread upon him,and torment him with her discipline, until she may trust his soul, and try him by her judgments.18Then she will return him again to the straight way,and will gladden him, and reveal to him her secrets.19If he goes astray, she will forsake him,and hand him over to his fall.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:165, 168, 171, 172, 174, 175

165Those who love your law have great peace.Nothing causes them to stumble.

168I have obeyed your precepts and your testimonies, for all my ways are before you.

171Let my lips utter praise, for you teach me your statutes.

172Let my tongue sing of your word, for all your commandments are righteousness.

174I have longed for your salvation, Lord.Your law is my delight.

175Let my soul live, that I may praise you.Let your ordinances help me.

GospelMark 9:38-40

From the Gospel according to Mark

38John said to him, “Teacher,we saw someonewho doesn’t follow us casting out demons in your name;and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow us.”

39But Jesus said, “Don’t forbid him,for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my nameand be able quickly to speak evil of me.40For whoever is not against us is on our side.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Act 1, 15-26.

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 1:15-26

In those days, Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren - now the number of persons met together was about a hundred and twenty - and he said, Brethren, the Scripture must be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit declared before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the guide of those who arrested Jesus; inasmuch as he had been numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry. And he indeed bought a field with the price of his iniquity and, being hanged, burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. And it became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that the field came to be called in their language Haceldama, that is, the Field of Blood. For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let their habitation become desolate and let there be none to dwell in it.’ And, ‘His ministry let another take.’ Therefore, of these men who have been in our company all the time that the Lord Jesus moved among us, from John’s baptism until the day that He was taken up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of His Resurrection.” And they put forward two: Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed and said, You, Lord, Who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away to go to his own place. And they drew lots between them, and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 11:25-30

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 11:25-30

At that time, Jesus spoke and said, I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You hid these things from the wise and prudent, and revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, for such was Your good pleasure. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and him to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden light.

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, to entreat Thee humbly, O Lord, that Thou wouldst not desert Thy flock, O everlasting Shepherd, but, through Thy blessed Apostles, wouldst keep it under Thy constant protection; that it may be governed by those same rulers, whom as vicars of Thy work, Thou didst set over it to be its pastors. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
