First ReadingHosea 11:1-4, 8e-9

From the Book of Hosea

1“When Israel was a child, then I loved him,

and called my son out of Egypt.2They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.3Yet I taught Ephraim to walk.I took them by their arms, but they didn’t know that I healed them.4I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love;and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks;and I bent down to him and I fed him. verses 5–7 are not read8“How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me,my compassion is aroused.9I will not execute the fierceness of my anger.I will not return to destroy Ephraim, for I am God, and not man—the Holy One among you.I will not come in wrath.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 80:2ac, 3b, 15-16

2Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock, you who sit above the cherubim, shine out.

3Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, stir up your might!Come to save us!

15Turn again, we beg you, God of Armies.Look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vine,16the stock which your right hand planted, the branch that you made strong for yourself.

GospelMatthew 10:7-15

From the Gospel according to Matthew

7As you go, preach, saying, ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!’8Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons.Freely you received, so freely give.9Don’t take any gold, silver, or brass in your money belts.10Take no bag for your journey, neither two coats, nor sandals, nor staff:for the laborer is worthy of his food.11Into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you go on.12As you enter into the household, greet it.13If the household is worthy, let your peace come on it,but if it isn’t worthy, let your peace return to you.14Whoever doesn’t receive you or hear your words,as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet.15Most certainly I tell you,it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodomand Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:12-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:12-17

Brethren: We are debtors, not to the flesh, that we should live according to the flesh, for if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the flesh, you will live. For whoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Now you have not received a spirit of bondage so as to be again in fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons, by virtue of which we cry, Abba! Father! The Spirit Himself gives testimony to our spirit that we are sons of God. But if we are sons, we are heirs also: heirs indeed of God and joint heirs with Christ.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 16:1-9

Ait autem víllicus intra se: Quid fáciam, quia dóminus meus aufert a me villicatiónem? fódere non váleo, mendicáre erubésco. Scio, quid fáciam, ut, cum amótus fúero a villicatióne, recípiant me in domos suas. Convocátis itaque síngulis debitóribus dómini sui, dicébat primo: Quantum debes dómino meo? At ille dixit: Centum cados ólei.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 16:1-9

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: There was a certain rich man who had a steward, who was reported to him as squandering his possessions. And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear of you? Make an accounting of your stewardship, for you can be steward no longer.’ And the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do, seeing that my master is taking away the stewardship from me? To dig I am not able; to beg I am ashamed. I know what I shall do, that when I am removed from my stewardship they may receive me into their houses.’ And he summoned each of his master’s debtors and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ And he said, ‘A hundred jars of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and sit down at once and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred kors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and write eighty.’ And the master commended the unjust steward, in that he had acted prudently; for the children of this world, in relation to their own generation, are more prudent than the children of the light. And I say to you, make friends for yourselves with the mammon of wickedness, so that when you fail they may receive you into the everlasting dwellings.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
