First ReadingRomans 1:16-25

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

16For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, because it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first, and also for the Greek.17For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.”

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodlinessand unrighteousness of menwho suppress the truth in unrighteousness,19because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them.20For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse.21Because knowing God,they didn’t glorify him as God,and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,23and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man,and of birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things.24Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves;25who exchanged the truth of God for a lie,and worshipedand served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 19:2-3, 4-5

2The heavens declare the glory of God.The expanse shows his handiwork.3Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge.

4There is no speech nor languagewhere their voice is not heard.5Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,

GospelLuke 11:37-41

From the Gospel according to Luke

37Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him.He went in and sat at the table.38When the Pharisee saw it,he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner.39The Lord said to him,“Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.40You foolish ones, didn’t hewho made the outside make the inside also?41But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.

Brethren: I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all humility and meekness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, careful to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace: one body and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of all, Who is above all, and throughout all, and in us all, Who is blessed forever and ever. Amen.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:34-46

In his duóbus mandátis univérsa lex pendet et prophétæ. Congregátis autem pharisǽis, interrogávit eos Jesus, dicens: Quid vobis vidétur de Christo? cujus fílius est? Dicunt ei: David. Ait illis: Quómodo ergo David in spíritu vocat eum Dóminum, dicens: Dixit Dóminus Dómino meo, sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimícos tuos scabéllum pedum tuórum? Si ergo David vocat eum Dóminum, quómodo fílius ejus est? Et nemo poterat ei respóndere verbum: neque ausus fuit quisquam ex illa die eum ámplius interrogáre.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:34-46

At that time, the Pharisees came to Jesus and one of them, a doctor of the Law, putting Him to the test, asked Him, Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets. Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them, saying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, David’s. He said to them, How then does David in the spirit call Him Lord, saying, The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool?’ If David, therefore, calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son? And no one could answer Him a word; neither did anyone dare from that day forth to ask Him any more questions.
