First ReadingSirach 35:1-12

From the Book of Sirach

1He who keeps the law multiplies offerings. He who heeds the commandments sacrifices a peace offering.2He who returns a kindness offers fine flour. He who gives alms sacrifices a thank offering.3To depart from wickedness pleases the Lord.To depart from unrighteousness is an atoning sacrifice.4See that you don’t appear in the presence of the Lord empty.5For all these things are done because of the commandment.6The offering of the righteous enriches the altar. The sweet fragrance of it is before the Most High.7The sacrifice of a righteous man is acceptable. It won’t be forgotten.8Glorify the Lord with generosity.Don’t reduce the first fruits of your hands.9In every gift show a cheerful countenance,And dedicate your tithe with gladness.10Give to the Most High according as he has given. As your hand has found, give generously.11For the Lord repays, and he will repay you sevenfold.12Don’t plan to bribe him with gifts, for he will not receive them.Don’t set your mind on an unrighteous sacrifice,For the Lord is the judge, and with him is no respect of persons.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 50:5-6, 7-8, 14, 23

5“Gather my saints together to me,those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”6The heavens shall declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

7“Hear, my people, and I will speak.Israel, I will testify against you.I am God, your God.8I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices.Your burnt offerings are continually before me.

14Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving.Pay your vows to the Most High.

23Whoever offers the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me,and prepares his way so that I will show God’s salvation to him.”

GospelMark 10:28-31

From the Gospel according to Mark

28Peter began to tell him,“Behold, we have left all and have followed you.”

29Jesus said, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house,or brothers, or sisters,or father, or mother,or wife, or children,or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News,30but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time:houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions;and in the age to come eternal life.31But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Joánnis Apóstoli

1 John 3:13-18

Lesson from the first letter of St John the Apostle

1 John 3:13-18.

Beloved: Do not be surprised if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. In this we have come to know His love, that He laid down His life for us; and we likewise ought to lay down our life for the brethren. He who has the goods of this world and sees his brother in need and closes his heart to him, how does the love of God abide in him? My dear children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Ps 7:2

Dómine, Deus meus, in te sperávi: salvum me fac ex ómnibus persequéntibus me et líbera me. Allelúja.

Ps. 119:1-2.

In my distress I called to the Lord, and He answered me.

℣.O Lord, deliver me from lying lip, from treacherous tongue. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ps 7:2

℣.O Lord my God, in You I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 14:16-24

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 14:16-24.

At that time, Jesus spoke to the Pharisees this parable: A certain man gave a great supper, and he invited many. And he sent his servant at supper time to tell those invited to come, for everything is now ready. And they all with one accord began to excuse themselves. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a farm, and I must go out and see it; I pray you hold me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am on my way to try them; I pray you hold me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ And the servant returned, and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house was angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the crippled, and the blind, and the lame.’ And the servant said, ‘Sir, your order has been carried out, and still there is room.’ Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and make them come in, so that my house may be filled. For I tell you that none of those who were invited shall taste of my supper.’

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
