From the Book of Genesis

18Then Judah came near to him,and said, “Oh, my lord, please let your servant speak a word in my lord’s ears, and don’t let your anger burn against your servant;for you are even as Pharaoh.19My lord asked his servants, saying, ‘Have you a father, or a brother?’20We said to my lord,‘We have a father,an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one;and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother;and his father loves him.’21You said to your servants,‘Bring him down to me,that I may set my eyes on him.’ verse 22 is not read23You said to your servants,‘Unless your youngest brother comes down with you,you will see my face no more.’24When we came up to your servant my father,we told him the words of my lord.25Our father said, ‘Go again and buy us a little food.’26We said, ‘We can’t go down.If our youngest brother is with us, then we will go down:for we may not see the man’s face, unless our youngest brother is with us.’27Your servant, my father, said to us, ‘You know that my wife bore me two sons.28One went out from me,and I said, “Surely he is torn in pieces;”and I haven’t seen him since.29If you take this one also from me,and harm happens to him,you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.’

some verses are not read1Then Joseph couldn’t control himself before all thosewho stood before him,and he called out,“Cause everyone to go out from me!”No one else stood with him, while Joseph made himself known to his brothers.2He wept aloud. The Egyptians heard, and the house of Pharaoh heard.3Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph!Does my father still live?”

His brothers couldn’t answer him;for they were terrified at his presence.4Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.”

They came near.He said, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.5Now don’t be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 105:16-17, 18-19, 20-21

16He called for a famine on the land.He destroyed the food supplies.17He sent a man before them.Joseph was sold for a slave.

18They bruised his feet with shackles. His neck was locked in irons,19until the time that his word happened, and the Lord’s word proved him true.

20The king sent and freed him, even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free.21He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all of his possessions,

GospelMatthew 10:7-15

From the Gospel according to Matthew

7As you go, preach, saying, ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!’8Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons.Freely you received, so freely give.9Don’t take any gold, silver, or brass in your money belts.10Take no bag for your journey, neither two coats, nor sandals, nor staff:for the laborer is worthy of his food.11Into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you go on.12As you enter into the household, greet it.13If the household is worthy, let your peace come on it,but if it isn’t worthy, let your peace return to you.14Whoever doesn’t receive you or hear your words,as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet.15Most certainly I tell you,it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodomand Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:12-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:12-17

Brethren: We are debtors, not to the flesh, that we should live according to the flesh, for if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the flesh, you will live. For whoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Now you have not received a spirit of bondage so as to be again in fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons, by virtue of which we cry, Abba! Father! The Spirit Himself gives testimony to our spirit that we are sons of God. But if we are sons, we are heirs also: heirs indeed of God and joint heirs with Christ.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 16:1-9

Ait autem víllicus intra se: Quid fáciam, quia dóminus meus aufert a me villicatiónem? fódere non váleo, mendicáre erubésco. Scio, quid fáciam, ut, cum amótus fúero a villicatióne, recípiant me in domos suas. Convocátis itaque síngulis debitóribus dómini sui, dicébat primo: Quantum debes dómino meo? At ille dixit: Centum cados ólei.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 16:1-9

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: There was a certain rich man who had a steward, who was reported to him as squandering his possessions. And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear of you? Make an accounting of your stewardship, for you can be steward no longer.’ And the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do, seeing that my master is taking away the stewardship from me? To dig I am not able; to beg I am ashamed. I know what I shall do, that when I am removed from my stewardship they may receive me into their houses.’ And he summoned each of his master’s debtors and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ And he said, ‘A hundred jars of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and sit down at once and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred kors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and write eighty.’ And the master commended the unjust steward, in that he had acted prudently; for the children of this world, in relation to their own generation, are more prudent than the children of the light. And I say to you, make friends for yourselves with the mammon of wickedness, so that when you fail they may receive you into the everlasting dwellings.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
