First ReadingActs 11:19-26

From the Acts of the Apostles

19They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppressionthat arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia,Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews only.20But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.21The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.22The report concerning them came to the ears of the assemblywhich was in Jerusalem. They sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch,23who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad.He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.24For he was a good man,and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord.

25Barnabas went out to Tarsus to look for Saul.26When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 87:1b-3, 4-5, 6-7

1His foundation is in the holy mountains.2The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.3Glorious things are spoken about you, city of God.

4I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me.Behold, Philistia, Tyre, and also Ethiopia:“This one was born there.”5Yes, of Zion it will be said, “This one and that one was born in her;”the Most High himself will establish her.

6The Lord will count, when he writes up the peoples,“This one was born there.”7Those who sing as well as those who dance say,“All my springs are in you.”

GospelJohn 10:22-30

From the Gospel according to John

22It was the Feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem.23It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple,in Solomon’s porch.24The Jews therefore came around him and said to him,“How long will you hold us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

25Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you don’t believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, these testify about me.26But you don’t believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you.27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.28I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.29My Father who has given them to me is greater than all.No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.30I and the Father are one.”

Almighty God, Who showest to them that be in error the light of thy truth, to the intent that they may return into the way of righteousness, grant unto all them that are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's Religion, that they may eschew those things that are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

1 Pet 2:11-19

Lesson from the first letter of St. Peter the Apostle

1 Pet 2:11-19

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, to refrain yourselves from carnal desires which war against the soul, Having your conversation good among the Gentiles: that whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by the good works, which they shall behold in you, glorify God in the day of visitation. Be ye subject therefore to every human creature for God's sake: whether it be to the king as excelling; Or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of the good: For so is the will of God, that by doing well you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not as making liberty a cloak for malice, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if for conscience towards God, a man endure sorrows, suffering wrongfully.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 16:16-22

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 16:16-22

In that time: Jesus said to his disciples: A little while, and now you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me: because I go to the Father. Then some of the disciples said one to another: What is this that he saith to us: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, because I go to the Father? They said therefore: What is this that he saith, A little while? we know not what he speaketh. And Jesus knew that they had a mind to ask him; and he said to them: Of this do you inquire among yourselves, because I said: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me? Amen, amen I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman, when she is in labour, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she hath brought forth the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. So also you now indeed have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice; and your joy no man shall take from you.

Paschalis

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
