Sunday · Ordinary Time · Sunday Cycle B · Psalter Week 3

First ReadingJonah 3:1-5, 10

From the Book of Jonah

1The Lord’s word came to Jonah the second time, saying,2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”

3So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the Lord’s word. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.4Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said,“In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”

5The people of Nineveh believed God;and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.

verses 6–9 are not read10God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way.God relented of the disasterwhich he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9

4Show me your ways, Lord.Teach me your paths.5Guide me in your truth, and teach me,for you are the God of my salvation.I wait for you all day long.

6Lord, remember your tender mercies and your loving kindness, for they are from old times.7Don’t remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions.Remember me according to your loving kindness, for your goodness’ sake, Lord.

8Good and upright is the Lord, therefore he will instruct sinners in the way.9He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way.

Second Reading1 Corinthians 7:29-31

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

29But I say this, brothers:the time is short. From now on, both thosewho have wives may be as though they had none;30and those who weep, as though they didn’t weep;and those who rejoice, as though they didn’t rejoice;and those who buy, as though they didn’t possess;31and those who use the world,as not using it to the fullest. For the mode of this world passes away.

GospelMark 1:14-20

From the Gospel according to Mark

14Now after John was taken into custody,Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Good News of God’s Kingdom,15and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and God’s Kingdom is at hand!Repent, and believe in the Good News.”

16Passing along by the sea of Galilee,he saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net into the sea,for they were fishermen.17Jesus said to them,“Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men.”

18Immediately they left their nets, and followed him.

19Going on a little further from there,he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.20Immediately he called them, and they left their father,Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános.

Rom 12:16-21

Noli vinci a malo, sed vince in bono malum.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 12:16-21

Brethren: Be not wise in your own conceits. To no man render evil for evil, but provide good things not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as far as in you lies, be at peace with all men. Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to the wrath, for it is written, Vengeance is Mine: I will repay, says the Lord. But, If your enemy is hungry, give him food; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will heap coals of fire upon his head. Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

Matt 8:1-13

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 8:1-13

At that time, when Jesus had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed Him. And behold, a leper came up and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, if You will, You can make me clean. And stretching forth His hand Jesus touched him, saying, I will; be made clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a witness to them. Now when He had entered Capharnaum, there came to Him a centurion who entreated Him, saying, Lord, my servant is lying sick in the house, paralyzed, and is grievously afflicted. Jesus said to him, I will come and cure him. But in answer the centurion said, Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man subject to authority, and have soldiers subject to me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it. And when Jesus heard this, He marveled, and said to those who were following Him, Amen I say to you, I have not found such great faith in Israel. And I tell you that many will come from the east and from the west and will feast with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, but the children of the kingdom will be put forth into the darkness outside; there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth. Then Jesus said to the centurion, Go your way; as you have believed, so be it done to you. And the servant was healed in that hour.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
