First Reading2 Corinthians 8:1-9

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

1Moreover, brothers,we make known to you the grace of Godwhich has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia,2how in a severe ordeal of affliction,the abundance of their joyand their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their generosity.3For according to their power,I testify, yes and beyond their power,they gave of their own accord,4begging us with much entreaty to receive this graceand the fellowship in the service to the saints.5This was not as we had expected,but first they gave their own selves to the Lord,and to us through the will of God.6So we urged Titus,that as he had made a beginning before,so he would also complete in you this grace.7But as you abound in everything—in faith, utterance,knowledge, all earnestness,and in your love to us—see that you also abound in this grace.

8I speak not by way of commandment,but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love.9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,that though he was rich,yet for your sakes he became poor,that you through his poverty might become rich.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 146:2, 5-6ab, 6c-7, 8-9a

2While I live, I will praise the Lord.I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist.

5Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help,whose hope is in the Lord, his God,6who made heaven and earth,the sea, and all that is in them;

6who keeps truth forever;7who executes justice for the oppressed;who gives food to the hungry.The Lord frees the prisoners.

8The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.The Lord raises up those who are bowed down.The Lord loves the righteous.9The Lord preserves the foreigners.He upholds the fatherless and widow,but he turns the way of the wicked upside down.

GospelMatthew 5:43-48

From the Gospel according to Matthew

43“You have heard that it was said,‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’44But I tell you, love your enemies,bless those who curse you,do good to those who hate you,and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,45that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven.For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good,and sends rain on the just and the unjust.46For if you love those who love you,what reward do you have?Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?47If you only greet your friends,what more do you do than others?Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?48Therefore you shall be perfect,just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 8:14-17

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 8:14-17.

In those days, when the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John. On their arrival they prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for as yet He had not come upon any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 10:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 10:1-10.

At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees, Amen, amen, I say to you, he who enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up another way, is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is shepherd of the sheep. To this man the gatekeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them forth. And when he has let out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. But a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. This parable Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what He was saying to them. Again, therefore, Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All whoever have come are thieves and robbers; but the sheep have not heard them. I am the door. If anyone enter by Me he shall be safe, and shall go in and out, and shall find pastures. The thief comes only to steal, and slay, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.
