From the Book of Hosea

16“Therefore behold, I will allure her,and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.17I will give her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope;and she will respond thereas in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.18It will be in that day,” says the Lord,“that you will call me ‘my husband,’and no longer call me ‘my master.’ verses 19–20 are not read21I will betroth you to me forever.Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion.22I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness;and you shall know the Lord.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 145:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9

2Every day I will praise you.I will extol your name forever and ever.3Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised! His greatness is unsearchable.

4One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.5I will meditate on the glorious majesty of your honor,on your wondrous works.

6Men will speak of the might of your awesome acts.I will declare your greatness.7They will utter the memory of your great goodness, and will sing of your righteousness.

8The Lord is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and of great loving kindness.9The Lord is good to all.His tender mercies are over all his works.

GospelMatthew 9:18-26

From the Gospel according to Matthew

18While he told these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her,and she will live.”

19Jesus got up and followed him, as did his disciples.20Behold, a womanwho had a discharge of blood for twelve years came behind him,and touched the fringe of his garment;21for she said within herself,“If I just touch his garment,I will be made well.”

22But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, “Daughter, cheer up!Your faith has made you well.”And the woman was made well from that hour.

23When Jesus came into the ruler’s houseand saw the flute players and the crowd in noisy disorder,24he said to them, “Make room, because the girl isn’t dead, but sleeping.”

They were ridiculing him.25But when the crowd was sent out,he entered in, took her by the hand, and the girl arose.26The report of this went out into all that land.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:3-11

Fratres: Quicúmque baptizáti sumus in Christo Jesu, in morte ipsíus baptizáti sumus.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:3-11.

Brethren: All we who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death. For we were buried with Him by means of Baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ has arisen from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in the likeness of His death, we shall be so in the likeness of His resurrection also. For we know that our old self has been crucified with Him, in order that the body of sin may be destroyed, that we may no longer be slaves to sin; for he who is dead is acquitted of sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live together with Christ; for we know that Christ, having risen from the dead, dies now no more, death shall no longer have dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives unto God. Thus do you consider yourselves also as dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Marcum

Marc 8:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Mark

Mark 8:1-9

At that time, when there was a great crowd with Jesus, and they had nothing to eat, He called His disciples together and said to them, I have compassion on the crowd, for behold, they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat; and if I send them away to their homes fasting, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come from a distance. And His disciples answered Him, How will anyone be able to satisfy these with bread, here in a desert? And He asked them, How many loaves have you? And they said, Seven. And He bade the crowd recline on the ground. Then taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to distribute; and they set them before the crowd. And they had a few little fishes; and He blessed them, and ordered them to be distributed. And they ate and were satisfied; and they took up what was left of the fragments, seven baskets. Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He dismissed them.
