First ReadingIsaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8

From the Book of Isaiah

1In the year that King Uzziah died,I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up;and his train filled the temple.2Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings. With two he covered his face. With two he covered his feet. With two he flew.3One called to another, and said,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory!”

4The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.5Then I said, “Woe is me!For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lipsand I live among a people of unclean lips, for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Armies!”

6Then one of the seraphim flew to me,having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar.7He touched my mouth with it,and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips;and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin forgiven.”

8I heard the Lord’s voice, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

Then I said, “Here I am. Send me!”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 138:1-2a, 2bc-3, 4-5, 7c-8*

1I will give you thanks with my whole heart. Before the gods, I will sing praises to you.2I will bow down toward your holy temple,

2and give thanks to your Name for your loving kindness and for your truth;for you have exalted your Name and your Word above all.3In the day that I called, you answered me.You encouraged me with strength in my soul.

4All the kings of the earth will give you thanks, Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth.5Yes, they will sing of the ways of the Lord, for the Lord’s glory is great!

7Though I walk in the middle of trouble, you will revive me.You will stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies.Your right hand will save me.8The Lord will fulfill that which concerns me.Your loving kindness, Lord, endures forever.Don’t forsake the works of your own hands.

Second Reading1 Corinthians 15:1-11

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

or 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 11

1Now I declare to you, brothers, the Good News which I preached to you, which also you received,in which you also stand,2by which also you are saved,if you hold firmly the word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

3For I delivered to you first of allthat which I also received:that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.6Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers at once, most of whom remain until now,but some have also fallen asleep.7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,8and last of all, as to the child born at the wrong time,he appeared to me also.9For I am the least of the apostles, who is not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the assembly of God.10But by the grace of God I am what I am.His grace which was given to me was not futile, but I worked more than all of them;yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.11Whether then it is I or they,so we preach, and so you believed.

GospelLuke 5:1-11

From the Gospel according to Luke

1Now while the multitude pressed on himand heard the word of God,he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret.2He saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of themand were washing their nets.3He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon’s,and asked him to put out a little from the land.He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

4When he had finished speaking,he said to Simon, “Put out into the deepand let down your nets for a catch.”

5Simon answered him,“Master, we worked all night and caught nothing;but at your word I will let down the net.”6When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking.7They beckoned to their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. They came and filled both boats,so that they began to sink.8But Simon Peter, when he saw it,fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me,for I am a sinful man, Lord.”9For he was amazed, and all who were with him,at the catch of fish which they had caught;10and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.

Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid. From now on you will be catching people alive.”

11When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corinthios

1 Cor 13:1-13

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 13:1-13

Brethren: If I should speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have charity, I have become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And if I have prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, yet do not have charity, I am nothing. And if I distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, yet do not have charity, it profits me nothing. Charity is patient, is kind; charity does not envy, is not pretentious, is not puffed up, is not ambitious, is not self-seeking, is not provoked; thinks no evil, does not rejoice over wickedness, but rejoices with the truth; bears with all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Charity never fails, whereas prophecies will disappear, and tongues will cease, and knowledge will be destroyed. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when that which is perfect has come, that which is imperfect will be done away with. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I have put away the things of a child. We see now through a mirror in an obscure manner, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know even as I have been known. So there abide faith, hope and charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 18:31-43

At ille dixit: Dómine, ut vídeam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 18:31-43

At that time, Jesus taking to Himself the Twelve said to them, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that have been written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and scourged and spit upon; and after they have scourged Him, they will put Him to death; and on the third day He will rise again. And they understood none of these things and this saying was hidden from them, neither did they get to know the things that were being said. Now it came to pass as He drew near to Jericho, that a certain blind man was sitting by the wayside, begging; but hearing a crowd passing by, he inquired what this might be. And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. And he cried out, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! And they who went in front angrily tried to silence him. But he cried out all the louder, Son of David, have mercy on me! Then Jesus stopped and commanded that he should be brought to Him. And when he drew near, He asked him, saying, What would you have Me do for you? And he said, Lord, that I may see. And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight, your faith has saved you. And at once he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people upon seeing it gave praise to God.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
