First Reading1 John 1:1-4

From the First Letter of John

1That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we saw,and our hands touched, concerning the Word of life2(and the life was revealed, and we have seen, and testify, and declare to you the life, the eternal life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us);3that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us.Yes, and our fellowship is with the Fatherand with his Son, Jesus Christ.4And we write these things to you, that our joy may be fulfilled.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12

1The Lord reigns!Let the earth rejoice!Let the multitude of islands be glad!2Clouds and darkness are around him.Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

5The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord,at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.6The heavens declare his righteousness. All the peoples have seen his glory.

11Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.12Be glad in the Lord, you righteous people!Give thanks to his holy Name.

GospelJohn 20:1a and 2-8

From the Gospel according to John

1Now on the first day of the week,Mary Magdalene went early, while it was still dark,to the tomb, and sawthat the stone had been taken away from the tomb.2Therefore she ran and came to Simon Peterand to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have laid him!”

3Therefore Peter and the other disciple went out,and they went toward the tomb.4They both ran together. The other disciple outran Peterand came to the tomb first.5Stooping and looking in,he saw the linen cloths lying there;yet he didn’t enter in.6Then Simon Peter came, following him, and entered into the tomb.He saw the linen cloths lying,7and the cloth that had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself.8So then the other disciplewho came first to the tomb also entered in,and he saw and believed.

Eccli 15:1-6

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Ecclus 15:1-6

He who fears God will do good; he who is practiced in the Law will come to wisdom. Like an honorable mother she will meet him, nourish him with the bread of life and understanding, and give him the water of learning to drink. She will be made strong in him, and he shall not be moved; she will hold him fast, and he shall not be put to shame. She will exalt him above his fellows; in the midst of the assembly she will open his mouth, and will fill him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding, and will clothe him with a robe of glory. The Lord our God will heap upon him a treasure of joy and gladness, and will cause him to inherit an everlasting name.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secundum Joánnem

Joann 21:19-24

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus Petro: Séquere me.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 21:19-24

At that time, Jesus said to Peter, Follow Me. Turning around, Peter saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who, at the supper, had leaned back upon His breast and said, Lord, who is it that will betray You? Peter therefore, seeing him, said to Jesus, Lord, and what of this man? Jesus said to him, If I wish him to remain until I come, what is it to you? You, follow Me. This saying therefore went abroad among the brethren, that that disciple was not to die. But Jesus had not said to him, He is not to die; but rather, If I wish him to remain until I come, what is it to you? This is the disciple who bears witness concerning these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his witness is true.

Nativity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God, for through the Mystery of the Word made flesh, the new light of Thy glory hath shone upon the eyes of our mind, so that while we acknowledge God in visible form, we may through Him be drawn to the love of things invisible. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Throne and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
