First Reading2 Kings 17:5-8, 13-15a, 18

From the Second Book of Kings

5Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.6In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samariaand carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

7It was so because the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God,who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,8and walked in the statutes of the nationswhom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made. verses 9–12 are not read13Yet the Lord testified to Israel and to Judah,by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”14Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck like the neck of their fatherswho didn’t believe in the Lord their God.15They rejected his statutes and his covenantthat he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them;and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nationsthat were around them, concerning whom the Lord had commanded themthat they should not do like them. verses 16–17 are not read18Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight. There was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 60:3, 4-5, 12-13

3God, you have rejected us.You have broken us down. You have been angry.Restore us, again.

4You have made the land tremble. You have torn it.Mend its fractures, for it quakes.5You have shown your people hard things. You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.

12Haven’t you, God, rejected us?You don’t go out with our armies, God.13Give us help against the adversary, for the help of man is vain.

GospelMatthew 7:1-5

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1“Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged.2For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged;and with whatever measure you measure,it will be measured to you.3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye,but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?4Or how will you tell your brother,‘Let me remove the speck from your eye,’and behold, the beam is in your own eye?5You hypocrite!First remove the beam out of your own eye,and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.

EpistleLectio

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Eccli 44:10-15

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Eccli 44:10-15

These were godly men whose virtues have not been forgotten; their wealth remains in their families, their posterity are a holy inheritance, and their seed has stood in the covenants. And their children for their sakes remain forever; their seed and their glory shall not be forsaken. All these are buried in peace, but their name lives on and on. At gatherings their wisdom is retold and the assembly sings their praises.

GradualGraduale

Ps 132:1-2

Ps 132:1-2

Behold, how good it is, and how pleasant, where brethren dwell as one! It is as when the precious ointment upon the head runs down over the beard, the beard of Aaron. Alleluia, alleluia.

℣.This is the true fraternal love, which conquers the wickedness of the world: holding fast to the glory of the heavenly kingdom, it has followed Christ. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:1-8

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:1-8

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. But there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be made known. For what you have said in darkness will be said in the light; and what you have whispered in the inner chambers will be preached on the housetops. But I say to you, My friends: Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will show you Whom you shall be afraid of; be afraid of Him Who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell. Yes, I say to you, be afraid of Him. Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings? And yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Yes, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore do not be afraid, you are of more value than many sparrows. And I say to you, everyone who acknowledges Me before men, him will the Son of Man also acknowledge before the angels of God.

Ps 5:12-13

All who love Your name shall glory in You, for You, O Lord, bless the just man; O Lord, You surround us with the shield of your good will.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:

Sap 3:4-6

Wis 3:4-6

For if before men they be punished, God tried them; as gold in the furnace, He proved them, and as sacrificial offerings He took them to Himself.

PostcommunionPostcommunio

Súmpsimus, Dómine, sanctórum Martyrum tuórum Joánnis et Pauli sollémnia celebrántes, sacraménta cœléstia: præsta, quǽsumus; ut, quod temporáliter gérimus, ætérnis gáudiis consequámur.

Per Dominum…

We have partaken of the heavenly sacrament, O Lord, as we celebrate the feast of Your holy Martyrs John and Paul; grant, we beseech You, that what we do in time we may reap in joy in eternity.
