First ReadingSirach 27:30—28:7

From the Book of Sirach

30Wrath and anger, these also are abominations.A sinner will possess them.1He who takes vengeance will find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely make his sins firm.2Forgive your neighbor the hurt that he has done, and then your sins will be pardoned when you pray.3Does anyone harbor anger against anotherand expect healing from the Lord?4Upon a man like himself he has no mercy, and does he make supplication for his own sins?5He himself, being flesh, nourishes wrath.Who will make atonement for his sins?6Remember your last end, and stop enmity.Remember corruption and death, and be true to the commandments.7Remember the commandments, and don’t be angry with your neighbor.Remember the covenant of the Highest, and overlook ignorance.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 103:1-2, 3-4, 9-10, 11-12

1Praise the Lord, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!2Praise the Lord, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits,

3who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,4who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

9He will not always accuse;neither will he stay angry forever.10He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities.

11For as the heavens are high above the earth,so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him.12As far as the east is from the west,so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Second ReadingRomans 14:7-9

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

7For none of us lives to himself, and none dies to himself.8For if we live, we live to the Lord.Or if we die, we die to the Lord.If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s.9For to this end Christ died, rose, and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

GospelMatthew 18:21-35

From the Gospel according to Matthew

21Then Peter came and said to him,“Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me,and I forgive him?Until seven times?”

22Jesus said to him,“I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven.23Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain kingwho wanted to settle accounts with his servants.24When he had begun to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.25But because he couldn’t pay,his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had,and payment to be made.26The servant therefore fell down and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me,and I will repay you all!’27The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him and forgave him the debt.

28“But that servant went outand found one of his fellow servantswho owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

29“So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me,and I will repay you!’30He would not, but wentand cast him into prison until he should pay back that which was due.31So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told their lord all that was done.32Then his lord called him in and said to him,‘You wicked servant!I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.33Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’34His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay allthat was due to him.35So my heavenly Father will also do to you,if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds.”

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:34-46

In his duóbus mandátis univérsa lex pendet et prophétæ. Congregátis autem pharisǽis, interrogávit eos Jesus, dicens: Quid vobis vidétur de Christo? cujus fílius est? Dicunt ei: David. Ait illis: Quómodo ergo David in spíritu vocat eum Dóminum, dicens: Dixit Dóminus Dómino meo, sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimícos tuos scabéllum pedum tuórum? Si ergo David vocat eum Dóminum, quómodo fílius ejus est? Et nemo poterat ei respóndere verbum: neque ausus fuit quisquam ex illa die eum ámplius interrogáre.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:34-46

At that time, the Pharisees came to Jesus and one of them, a doctor of the Law, putting Him to the test, asked Him, Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets. Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them, saying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, David’s. He said to them, How then does David in the spirit call Him Lord, saying, The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool?’ If David, therefore, calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son? And no one could answer Him a word; neither did anyone dare from that day forth to ask Him any more questions.

Orávi Deum meum ego Dániel, dicens: Exáudi, Dómine, preces servi tui: illúmina fáciem tuam super sanctuárium tuum: et propítius inténde pópulum istum, super quem invocátum est nomen tuum, Deus.

Dan 9:17-19

I, Daniel, prayed to my God, saying, Hear, O Lord, the prayers of Your servant; show Your face upon Your sanctuary, and favorably look down upon this people, upon whom Your name is invoked, O God.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:

Make vows to the Lord, your God, and fulfill them; let all round about Him bring gifts to the terrible Lord Who checks the pride of princes, Who is terrible to the kings of the earth.
