First ReadingRevelation 11:4-12

From the Book of Revelation

4These are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands, standing before the Lord of the earth.5If anyone desires to harm them, fire proceeds out of their mouthand devours their enemies. If anyone desires to harm them,he must be killed in this way.6These have the power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over the waters,to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague,as often as they desire.

7When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them.8Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.9From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations, people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.10Those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented thosewho dwell on the earth.

11After the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet.Great fear fell on those who saw them.12I heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!”They went up into heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 144:1, 2, 9-10

1Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands to war,and my fingers to battle—

2my loving kindness, my fortress,my high tower, my deliverer,my shield, and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues my people under me.

9I will sing a new song to you, God.On a ten-stringed lyre, I will sing praises to you.10You are he who gives salvation to kings, who rescues David, his servant, from the deadly sword.

GospelLuke 20:27-40

From the Gospel according to Luke

27Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.28They asked him, “Teacher,Moses wrote to usthat if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wifeand raise up children for his brother.29There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.30The second took her as wife, and he died childless.31The third took her,and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.32Afterward the woman also died.33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be?For the seven had her as a wife.”

34Jesus said to them,“The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.35But those who are considered worthy to attain to that ageand the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.36For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels and are children of God,being children of the resurrection.37But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’38Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”

39Some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you speak well.”40They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 4:9-14

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 4:9-14

Brethren: We have been made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are without honor! To this very hour we hunger and thirst, and we are naked and buffeted, and have no fixed abode. And we toil, working with our own hands. We are reviled and we bless, we are persecuted and we bear with it, we are maligned and we entreat, we have become as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now! I write these things not to put you to shame, but to admonish you as my dearest children, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:32-34

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Nolíte timére, pusíllus grex, quia complácuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:32-34

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Do not be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure unfailing in heaven, where neither thief draws near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
