First ReadingExodus 32:15-24, 30-34

From the Book of Exodus

15Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand;tablets that were written on both their sides. They were written on one side and on the other.16The tablets were the work of God,and the writing was the writing of God,engraved on the tablets.

17When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted,he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”

18He said, “It isn’t the voice of thosewho shout for victory. It is not the voice of those who cry for being overcome;but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”19As soon as he came near to the camp,he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger grew hot,and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.20He took the calf which they had made, and burned it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink it.

21Moses said to Aaron,“What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”

22Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot.You know the people, that they are set on evil.23For they said to me,‘Make us gods, which shall go before us.As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt,we don’t know what has become of him.’24I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them take it off.’So they gave it to me;and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”

verses 25–29 are not read30On the next day, Moses said to the people,“You have sinned a great sin.Now I will go up to the Lord.Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”

31Moses returned to the Lord, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin,and have made themselves gods of gold.32Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your bookwhich you have written.”

33The Lord said to Moses,“Whoever has sinned against me,I will blot him out of my book.34Now go, lead the people to the place ofwhich I have spoken to you.Behold, my angel shall go before you.Nevertheless, in the day when I punish,I will punish them for their sin.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 106:19-20, 21-22, 23

19They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped a molten image.20Thus they exchanged their gloryfor an image of a bull that eats grass.

21They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,22wondrous works in the land of Ham,and awesome things by the Red Sea.

23Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had Moses, his chosen, not stood before him in the breach,to turn away his wrath, so that he wouldn’t destroy them.

GospelMatthew 13:31-35

From the Gospel according to Matthew

31He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took, and sowed in his field,32which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown,it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree,so that the birds of the air comeand lodge in its branches.”

33He spoke another parable to them.“The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeastwhich a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened.”

34Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes;and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them,35that it might be fulfilledwhich was spoken through the prophet, saying,

“I will open my mouth in parables;I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios.

1 Cor 15:1-10

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 15:1-10

Brethren: I recall to your minds the Gospel that I preached to you, which also you received, wherein also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold it fast, as I preached it to you - unless you have believed to no purpose. For I delivered to you first of all, what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, and after that to the Eleven. Then He was seen by more than five hundred brethren at one time, many of whom are with us still, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by the Apostles. And last of all, as by one born out of due time, He was seen also by me. For I am the least of the Apostles, and am not worthy to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace in me has not been fruitless.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Marcum.

Marc 7:31-37

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Mark

Mark 7:31-37

At that time, Jesus departing from the district of Tyre came by way of Sidon to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the district of Decapolis. And they brought to Him one deaf and dumb, and entreated Him to lay His hand upon him. And taking him aside from the crowd, He put His fingers into the man’s ears, and spitting, He touched his tongue. And looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, Ephpheta, that is, Be opened. And his ears were at once opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak correctly. And He charged them to tell no one. But the more He charged them, so much the more did they continue to publish it. And so much the more did they wonder, saying, He has done all things well. He has made both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.
