First ReadingHaggai 1:1-8

From the Book of Haggai

1In the second year of Darius the king,in the sixth month,in the first day of the month, the Lord’s word came by Haggai the prophet,to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,2“This is what the Lord of Armies says:These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for the Lord’s house to be built.’”

3Then the Lord’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,4“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?5Now therefore this is what the Lord of Armies says:‘Consider your ways.6You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm;and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.’

7“This is what the Lord of Armies says:‘Consider your ways.8Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house.I will take pleasure in it,and I will be glorified,” says the Lord.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 149:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6a and 9b

1Praise the Lord!Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.2Let Israel rejoice in him who made them.Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

3Let them praise his name in the dance!Let them sing praises to him with tambourine and harp!4For the Lord takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

5Let the saints rejoice in honor.Let them sing for joy on their beds.6May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand,9to execute on them the written judgment. All his saints have this honor.Praise the Lord!

GospelLuke 9:7-9

From the Gospel according to Luke

7Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him;and he was very perplexed, because it was said by somethat John had risen from the dead,8and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by othersthat one of the old prophets had risen again.9Herod said, “I beheaded John, but who is this about whom I hear such things?”He sought to see him.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas.

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Brethren: If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. Let us not become desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, even if a person is caught doing something wrong, you who are spiritual instruct such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, whereas he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let everyone test his own work, and so he will have glory in himself only, and not in comparison with another. For each one will bear his own burden. And let him who is instructed in the word share all good things with his teacher. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what a man sows in the flesh, from the flesh also will reap corruption. But he who sows in the spirit, from the spirit will reap life everlasting. And in doing good let us not grow tired; for in due time we shall reap if we do not relax. Therefore, while we have time, let us do good to all men, but especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 7:11-16

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 7:11-16

At that time, Jesus went into a city called Naim; and His disciples and a large crowd went with Him. And as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was with her. And the Lord, seeing her, had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep. And He went up and touched the stretcher; and the bearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited His people.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
