First ReadingSirach 42:15-25

From the Book of Sirach

15I will make mention now of the works of the Lord, and will declare the things that I have seen. The Lord’s works are in his words.16The sun that gives light looks at all things. The Lord’s work is full of his glory.17The Lord has not given power to the saints to declare all his marvelous works, which the Almighty Lord firmly settled, that the universe might be established in his glory.18He searches out the deep and the heart. He has understanding of their secrets. For the Most High knows all knowledge. He sees the signs of the world.19He declares the things that are past and the things that shall be,and reveals the traces of hidden things.20No thought escapes him. There is not a word hidden from him.21He has ordered the mighty works of his wisdom. He is from everlasting to everlasting.Nothing has been added to them, nor diminished from them.He had no need of any counselor.22How desirable are all his works! One may see this even in a spark.23All these things live and remain forever in all manner of uses. They are all obedient.24All things are in pairs, one opposite the other. He has made nothing imperfect.25One thing establishes the good things of another.Who could ever see enough of his glory?

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 33:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9

2Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre.Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.3Sing to him a new song.Play skillfully with a shout of joy!

4For the Lord’s word is right. All his work is done in faithfulness.5He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loving kindness of the Lord.

6By the Lord’s word, the heavens were made:all their army by the breath of his mouth.7He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap.He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

8Let all the earth fear the Lord.Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.9For he spoke, and it was done.He commanded, and it stood firm.

GospelMark 10:46-52

From the Gospel according to Mark

46They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho with his disciplesand a great multitude, the son of Timaeus,Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.47When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene,he began to cry out and say,“Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”48Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more,“You son of David, have mercy on me!”

49Jesus stood still and said, “Call him.”

They called the blind man, saying to him, “Cheer up!Get up. He is calling you!”

50He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.

51Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”

The blind man said to him,“Rabboni, that I may see again.”

52Jesus said to him, “Go your way.Your faith has made you well.”Immediately he received his sightand followed Jesus on the way.

Eccli 31:8-11

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.
