First ReadingGenesis 2:18-25*

From the Book of Genesis

18The Lord God said,“It is not good for the man to be alone.I will make him a helper comparable to him.”19Out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky,and brought them to the man to see what he would call them.Whatever the man called every living creature became its name.20The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky,and to every animal of the field;but for man there was not found a helper comparable to him.21The Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. As the man slept, he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.22The Lord God made a woman from the ribwhich he had taken from the man,and brought her to the man.23The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called ‘woman,’because she was taken out of Man.”24Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.25The man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 128:1-2, 3, 4-5*

1Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways.2For you will eat the labor of your hands. You will be happy, and it will be well with you.

3Your wife will be as a fruitful vine in the innermost parts of your house, your children like olive shoots around your table.

4Behold, this is how the man who fears the Lord is blessed.5May the Lord bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

GospelMark 7:24-30

From the Gospel according to Mark

24From there he aroseand went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house and didn’t want anyone to know it,but he couldn’t escape notice.25For a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.26Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. She begged himthat he would cast the demon out of her daughter.27But Jesus said to her,“Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children’s breadand throw it to the dogs.”

28But she answered him, “Yes, Lord.Yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

29He said to her, “For this saying, go your way.The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

30She went away to her house, and found the child having been laid on the bed, with the demon gone out.

Eccli 31:8-11

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.

And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
