So David wentand brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed-Edom into David’s city with joy.13When those who bore the Lord’s ark had gone six paces,he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.14David danced before the Lord with all his might;and David was clothed in a linen ephod.15So David and all the house of Israel brought up the Lord’s ark with shoutingand with the sound of the trumpet. verse 16 is not read17They brought in the Lord’s ark,and set it in its place in the middle of the tentthat David had pitched for it;and David offered burnt offeringsand peace offerings before the Lord.18When David had finished offering the burnt offeringand the peace offerings,he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of Armies.19He gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women,to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed, each to his own house.

GospelMark 3:31-35

From the Gospel according to Mark

31His mother and his brothers came, and standing outside, they sent to him, calling him.32A multitude was sitting around him,and they told him,“Behold, your mother, your brothers, and your sisters are outside looking for you.”

33He answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”34Looking around at those who sat around him,he said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers!35For whoever does the will of God is my brother,my sister, and mother.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

1 Tim 6:11-16

Amen.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to Timothy

1 Tim. 6:11-16

Beloved: Pursue justice, godliness, faith, charity, patience, mildness. Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, to which you have been called, and have made the good confession before many witnesses. I charge you in the sight of God, Who gives life to all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, Who bore witness before Pontius Pilate to the good confession, that you keep the commandment without stain, blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. This coming He in His own time will make manifest, Who is the Blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords; Who alone has immortality and dwells in light inaccessible, Whom no man has seen or can see, to Whom be honor and everlasting dominion. Amen.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 14:26-33

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 14:26-33.

At that time, Jesus said to the crowds, If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. And he who does not carry his cross and follow Me, cannot be My disciple. For which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not sit down first and calculate the outlays that are necessary, whether he has the means to complete it? Lest, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all who behold begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish!’ Or what king setting out to engage in battle with another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to meet him who with twenty thousand is coming against him? Or else, whilst the other is yet at a distance, he sends a delegation and asks the terms of peace. So, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all that he possesses, cannot be My disciple.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:

Semel jurávi in sancto meo: Semen ejus in ætérnum manébit: et sedes ejus sicut sol in conspéctu meo, et sicut luna perfécta in ætérnum, et testis in coelo fidélis.

Ps 88:36-38

Once, by My holiness, have I sworn; his posterity shall continue forever; and his throne shall be like the sun before Me; like the moon, which remains forever, a faithful witness in the sky.
